Here's what we've been up to this week! Starting with A Word from Vixel!
2/28 Weekly Update:
Hey everyone! I've been quietfox for a few weeks, been crunching to get us to another build! :O
Ran out of time in February, but I do think we'll see one early in March. Hang tight for a few more days. <3
Stuff that I finally got stable last week:
- Dialogue.
- Save system and database.
- Most of fast travel.
Stuff that's still broken:
- Some of the triggering during Acts 1 and 2.
- Dustin dash minigame (just the triggering)
- Chapter select (fast-forwarding scripts work differently now)
I've been reassembling Acts 1 and 2 so they play the same as they did before. Since starting this upgrade, I've moved nearly every configurable part of the game into a database to cleanly separate content IN the game, with scripts that RUN the game. Under the hood, almost every script (hundreds) has changed significantly or been rewritten. Once the game is stable again, Carrot and I will toss a build back and forth and look for issues, then we can finally get that out to yall to test and play.
My work process goes like this: run the game > something explodes > investigate why > either fix a bug, or rethink something I overlooked in the new designs > rinse repeat. Since so much code has changed, it's whack-a-mole fixing issues as I continue converging on a stable build. The process goes in cycles, so it's tricky to pinpoint how long it'll take -- but I'm seeing most of the problems in a short list of scripts, which is a good sign. ^^

Vixel's been tearing it up! He gives me rundowns of his progress with the new databases and it's INSAAAANE! There's SOOO DANG MUCH to a game like this. It's crazy, the data base was for sure a necessary revamp!
On my side, buhh, I've been battling a random bout of insomnia for the past few weeks Dx! It's honestly got me tuckered out for most of the day and it's been pretty difficult getting anything done. Buuut, starting to see the light at the end the tunnel I think!
Despite my productivity being trashed, I've been doing the look development for Act 4 areas. I also managed to doodle some Sprigatito above! That cats fuckin CUTE.
OK! Here's to a better week on my end! And to gettin' a build for y'all this month :>
