Okay, hear me out. Thomas Cream was a serial killer who, allegedly, as he was being executed, confessed to being Jack the Ripper. The odd thing about Cream was that he wasn’t the kind of serial killer who slashed people up with knives. He was a poisoner (although he did kill sex workers). So maybe Jack poisoning La Croix was meant to be a nod to Cream?
