Whiplash is about a promising young drummer who enrolls in a music conservatory where he meets an instructor who pushes him to the brink of insanity. It's ambitious, relentless, and sometimes brutal. I was mesmerized by this movie. Let me know if there are other films like this that you would recommend!

As much as I love this movie, I have always found the end a bit troubling. "How did you punish the abusive a-hole that ruined your life?" "I gave him exactly what he wanted, proving the abuse produced results." "Ah cool....wait....what!?"

I was told that during the "are you rushing or dragging" scene, you can see the alternate drummer look confused because Neiman is actually on tempo and Fletcher is only doing it to create that power dynamic. Also even though he introduces himself as "Nay-men", fletcher continues to call him "Nee-man" to further show he doesn't care lol and it sticks.
