And you mentioned the color. In the comics, Daredevil's original costume was yellow and red and had a yellow mask.

I'm fairly certain the scene where Jen picks up her clothes and then we see the tease of Daredevil's helmet, was supposed to be a post-credits scene. But then, when the series launched and didn't do very well, they edited that scene to be before the credits to ensure as many people saw it as possible, increasing the hype and online discourse about a Daredevil reference and potential cameo.
