🕑 Added 2024-09-24 00:18:18 +0000 UTCIt's Movie Monday!!! Get your popcorn, grab your whipped cream face mask, and let's watch Mrs. Doubtfire! I can't believe that Mrs. Doubtfire is over 30 years old. This movie came out when I was three and I don't think of that as being over three decades ago! 😅
Synopsis: Troubled that he has little access to his children, divorced Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) hatches an elaborate plan. With help from his creative brother Frank (Harvey Fierstein), he dresses as an older British woman and convinces his ex-wife, Miranda (Sally Field), to hire him as a nanny. Mrs. Doubtfire wins over the children and helps Daniel become a better parent -- but as Daniel's doubt life gets more complicated, his secrets may be exposed.
Robin Williams stole the show in this movie. It was hysterical and heart warming all at the same time. What an important film for any child watching their parents go through a divorce.

Yes! The scenes between the parents feel so real. Even thought the ending isn't a traditionally happy one, it is the perfect ending. I'm so glad they didn't go with the original script!

I'm sure they were. It seems a lot of comedians struggle with their personal lives, but they turn it into something joyful for others.

It makes the movie so much more interesting. He's an actual competitor for Daniel and it makes Daniel actually have to step up and be the better parent he has to be.

Such a true classic and such a lovely movie and I totally agree it's something that can help kids who are also going through their parents divorcing. And the scenes where they fight are hard to watch because they are so realistic. So wonderfully acted by Sally Field and Robin Williams. The movie did actually have a script with a "happy" ending where Daniel and Miranda got back together, but the producers realized it was the wrong choice and that it was just more realistic that the parents don't get back together.

This was a fun trip down memory lane! Robin Williams was in the middle of an amazing run here with Hook, Aladdin, this movie, and Jumanji, all staples of my childhood. This movie was not originally a Disney movie; it was a 20th Century Fox production (acquired by Disney in 2019) and rated PG-13 so that is why some of the humor is risqué.

Thanks Jax! I can't help but wonder if Robin Williams' life experiences were a double edge sword that reflected in his acting as well as his alleged personal demons.

Yeah, this film is pretty amazing and so nostalgic! I agree that not all the jokes would be made today, but they also don't change how great the film is. I'm so glad they didn't make Stu a villain. It made the movie so much better to have him be a good person.

Oh my gosh, I love this movie. Though it came out before I was born, it is such childhood classic and so nostalgic for me. Some jokes don't age the best since it's the 90s but they're not so egregious that it takes you out of the film; it's something you can overlook. A fun fact about this film: Stu was originally supposed to be an arrogant villain, but Chris Columbus felt it would hurt the relationship with Mrs. Doubtfire, so he was rewritten to be the perfect potential replacement for Daniel as a father for the kids.

a big fact on robin .. Sally Field's father died during filming. She had hoped to continue working and remain professional not letting the death affect her but when Robin Williams saw something was bothering his co-star she revealed the news and Williams went to director Chris Columbus to insist that scenes were shot around Field needing time off to grieve and support her family.
