Jax, I will admit this took me a few weeks to build up the courage to watch. My best friend Bruce did actually go home to heaven around this time last year and I've still been a wreck every single day without him. I'm writing this now before I hit play because I think I'll be a blubbering mess by the time I'm through. Wish me luck. 😭

I really appreciate Don B’s whole story of striking out on his own from Disney and taking half of their animators with him to creating their own studio… and not only that, but that they were as successful as they were against Disney in (arguably) Disney’s strongest era of the 1990s- cranking out hits like All Dogs Go To Heaven, An American Tail, The Land Before Time, Anastasia (My personal favorite of his), and more. But they are all heavy in their own ways, or intense or tearjerkers. Definitely the more serious side of the two dueling animation studios. *And I’m sure that’s what your dog thought too! Dogs enjoy watching dogs!* hehe

I didn't realize Don Bluth created movies that were heavier than Disney films. Now I can be more prepared when I watch more of his work! I was devastated when I found out what happened to the actress. It makes this film even more difficult to watch. I am hoping my dog just thought the little girl and Charlie were best friends! 😅

Jacqueline

Wow, I just looked up her story and it is very sad. The ending scene feels so different now. ❤️

I’m sorry, but I also cracked up laughing when you said “This was my dog’s favorite movie?! Was my dog depressed?!?!” 🤭

Kay Douglas

Oh boy- I haven’t watched this movie in years cause it is SO SAD-! ❤️ another darker classic from the 80s and 90sby Don Bluth. His movies were often not cheerful, but they were still wonderfully animated and dealt with a lot of big heavy issues. I have already seen other people, leaving the comments about the actress, passing away and making this movie even more sad, so I won’t rehash that but just know I cried and laugh-cried right there along with you the whole time!

That ending with Charlie and Anne Marie saying goodbye always gets me 😢 Especially now that I know about the tragedy that happened with the actress that played Anne Marie 💔

UnSafeStu

Oh dear, this movie gets even more tearjerking once you know the little girl passed away before the movie finished being made and Charlie's goodbye is really Burt Reynolds saying goodbye to the real little girl.

Jacqueline

That is so cute!! 😭

My boy Cinder was never particularly interested with whatever was on screen unless it was some kind of small creature he could hunt. There were many toe bean marks on the screen from skillfully executed baps.
