Vivek’s statement is so funny to me, I grew up outside of DC and remember two of the smartest people I knew were Varsity Cheerleaders who went on to study at MIT or an Ivy League (this was 2009). The references are so antiquated, even when Big Bang Theory came out I felt that depiction of nerd was out of place because the more academically successful kids at my school generally did at least one sport, played an instrument as well, just were constantly really busy but not socially impaired. I have this nascent theory that “nerd” culture actually leads to a lack of academic success nowadays because games are so addicting and so much of it generally encourages a degree of isolation, whereas doing well in school requires socialization and just being present in the real world generally, which none of our tech encourages but certainly being on a sport (well maybe besides football in the US) or doing another activity like music does. That’s a run on sentence and I don’t feel like refining but I wanted to post somewhere cause I heard what he wrote a few days ago and was amused but flabbergasted

I'm 34 (35 this year). I'm old enough to remember that saved by the bell was on TV, but it was something my older cousin watched rather than something I would have been interested in watching
