I don't understand that view at all. While there are some pairing that I like a lot more than others, no part of the reason is ever because it's canon. And with Naruto, I generally don't care who he's with so long as it's not a male character or oc.

Great chapter and I'm all for any pairings other than Sakura or Hinata, Hinata because well she's barely a character and if you're making her an actual character might as well create an OC to be free from the baggages of sticking to the Hyuga. Sakura as well while she's more of a character and can be easily shifted towards truly loving Naruto just embodies too much of the bad of Naruto female characters to be made good without major rewrites to her personality, lineage and skill set. A lot of other characters have more interesting back stories or personalities than the fandom's darling pairings for Naruto hell the best Naruto completed fics I've read have him dating Karin, Fuu, Yugito or Konan, while really good incomplete/ongoing fics have him paired with Tenten, Ino or Temari. Honorable mention are time travel fics that drop a post war Naruto in the 3rd or 2nd wars and have him bagging Mikoto or Tsunade in their primes.

Oh that's just character assassination of the highest degree the fuck? I get Kishi sucks at writing usefulness in female characters but holy fuck going from she was a good Shinobi and contender to being a Hokage to whatever the fuck that was is just stupid.

I really, REALLY, wanna know what you have planned for this story next because I absolutely loved how you portraied both Naruto and Kushina. Because most fics I've read just gloss over the fact that, while Naruto is absolute pants at book learning, he is an absolute Monster when it comes to kinesthetic learning. And Kushina feels actually like a proper contender for the position of hokage. Way more than she was portraied even in the original series.
