I'm glad Simon is going to get professional help. I dearly hope that one result will be that he never again feels the need to apologize for not killing himself; I cannot, in any case, believe that Eira left him the agency to remove himself from her service that way any more than she left him the agency to quit in any other manner.

I read the Patreon stories aloud to my spouse (we normally listen to the audiobooks together) and to a friend (who is a patron here themselves) and we just got to this one tonight. There was much wry chuckling and nods of recognition through this, as my spouse takes the mortal form of Aster's tea, and we've all dealt with trauma of our own kinds.
