Ahem, I have an announcement!
🕑 Added 2025-04-21 02:21:30 +0000 UTCI have something to tell you all...you're gonna have to get me a new rat cage because i'm moving to the United States for grad school. This will be a massive change for me and i'm hoping it will transform me artistically!!
I won't be working my childcare jobs so i'll have more time and the facilities to make things on a bigger scale. I'm going to have my own studio which i've never had before. I've been working out of my bedroom for 10 years. If I can make a pretty setup, I want to stream on Youtube once per week. More than ever, I feel grateful to have your support because how many other artists have this kind of community and support?
I'm pretty nervous. I'm finding myself savouring Canada, the cool weather and people I love. I've become obsessed with having rosy cheeks from the cold. Every morning I jog and then admire my rosy cheeks when I get home. To me, it's like the epitome of health, youthfulness and beauty right now. I don't know how I'm gonna handle the heat. I may dress sexy online, but in person I dress conservatively.
I know this sounds vain, but I want to be big. I don't want to be that weird art hoe who made Youtube videos that always stayed in the fringes. People have often referred to be as a "outsider artist".
Here are the people I want to be like: Tim Heidecker, Nathan Fielder, Miranda July, Sheila Heiti, Mona Awad, Melissa Broder, ContraPoints, Micarah Tewers, Conner O'Malley.
Why are so many of my heroes either anti-comedy men or magical realism authors? I don't do either of those things but they feel closer to my soul than fine artists. I want to make anti-comedy and I want to write a book. I am putting my dreams into this post, I hope they come true! I feel a little emotional, I want to be a powerful rat, but i'm going to miss my home.
Thank you for the kibble, the alfalfa and for being intelligent and funny humans that very often comment things that blow my mind.
Maybe for my travel cage you can set up a little hammock.

I hope that you never get to the point where you have to put aside what you love in order to get by, I've definitely had to do that a lot lately and it's made it impossible for me to put any of my limited energy into making things and stretching my legs artistically. You seem to be inspired by a lot of the same people that make me want to dedicate my time to more artistic endeavors, I think that's partly why I'm so drawn to your work. They say that good art is art that you can see yourself in, I think that's the most true thing ever said about art. To broadcast your image and your self takes so much effort and also so much dedication to the truth of that self while still making something people would want to watch so that it grows and gets out there to more eyes. It makes me sad that you feel limited by the term "outside artist" as some of my most favorite works of all time are by similarly labelled creators. They inspire me to make things for the edification of my own soul, to know myself more purely for my own sake and not for the sake of others. I know it's every artist's dream to be a well known artist, somewhere deep down. To be known and understood widely by the world, I guess it's quite gratifying and validating to know that your substance has a home in so many hearts that look to you for that little reflection of their lives and emotions. I look to you for that little reflection, Maya. I know people grow and change and who knows who or where we'll both be in a decade's time, but I'll always be peeking through the lighted screen at the beauty of your creation, hoping still to see that little reflection of my heart and my love of art in all of your hard work. <3

Wow, I can't believe you're going to be making a nest here in the US! I have no experience living in another country so I'm afraid I can't really give you any helpful advice there. It makes me so happy to hear about all these aspirations though, I have all the confidence in the world that you can do whatever you put your mind to. I struggle myself with trying to figure out what my aspirations are. I have plenty of them but I've been searching desperately for one that can afford me a better station in life where I won't have to worry about money so often. It always seems like no one ever wants to pay you to do the things that edify your soul without having to jump through a hundred hoops to get there, and I've never been very good at jumping.
