Enzo had always picked on him, for as long as he could remember, and Gregory had always been too small to fight back. There was but three years of difference that separated the two boys, but that was more than enough for Enzo to push Gregory around with complete impunity. At least until Gregory had found 'it'. 'It' was smooth and warm in his hands, like a recently doused ember. Marvelous and pink, round and incandescent, it was like a stone, but more brilliant than anything Gregory had seen before it. No imperfections, no smudges; the stone looked otherworldly. As Gregory had been quick to discover, the stone *was* otherworldly; the little pink stone had power beyond imagination. It could do just about anything, so long as the one holding it could conceive of the desires deep in their heart. By bending time, space, and logic to their limits, it could grant the wishes of men, or rather the wishes of little boys whose imagination was still strong enough to utilize it. While Gregory would eventually come to test the limits of the stone, he would do so from a point of malice. Even when fully understanding the raw power he held in his hands, it would never cross his mind to use it for anything other than the fundamental destruction of his older brother's life. No making himself rich, or asking for world peace, just a childish desire to see Enzo fall as far as he decided to make him. Perhaps that itself was a part of the Wishstone by design; to only be found and used by those who would only think about petty grievances. Or maybe it had a subtle effect on the holder? That the one making the wish was rendered incapable of using it for altruistic purposes or for grand big-picture schemes? Gregory had found the stone at the park. He'd been there with his brother, just wanting to play and have a good time, and he'd gotten into some silly scuffle with Enzo. The older boy had pushed him into a bush, and as he'd been standing up, Gregory had seen it on the ground. So shiny and tantalizing. Gregory was already at the perfect age to be collecting rocks to take home, and this was almost more of a jewel! He'd picked it up and immediately felt a strange connection to it, as if it had been waiting here just for him; it radiated a warmth that filled Gregory with confidence. He'd quickly hid it when he considered that his brother might see it and steal it; into the pocket of his cargo shorts it went, and he could still feel its welcoming glow against him. Like it was a warm hug for his ego. There it had stayed for much of the day, as Gregory had forgotten about it until it was nearing bedtime. Gregory still wasn't dry at night, and being a heavy wetter, he was still wearing Pampers on his butt to sleep in; the largest size on the toddler line still fit him just fine, at least when considering the lacking mobility he needed for when he was wearing them. The usual nighttime routine for him was to brush his teeth, put his clothes in the laundry, and then lay in bed in wait for his mommy to come get him taped up in his diaper. From there he'd be expected to get his pajamas on and go to bed. It wouldn't have been anything to fret over if his older brother wasn't such a jerk about it. Sure, Gregory felt a general embarrassment for still wearing diapers to bed at six years old, but his parents had assured him that he was the only boy in his class who had to deal with bedwetting. That made Gregory feel better, but not enough to make up for Enzo's mockery. Enzo hadn't been a bedwetter at that age, so it couldn't even be decried as hypocritical; his cruelty was pure in its merit against Gregory, and that made it hurt all the more. He had to hear the older boy call him all sorts of names, even after their parents had lectured him on being nicer to his little brother: Baby, toddler, diaper boy, diaper-butt, pee-pee pants, bedwetter, pamper-pisser... There was never a shortage of things for Enzo to call him; there was never enough nicknames to be satisfied with. And that night had been no different. The two boys had gone upstairs to brush their teeth, and Enzo had started talking about how embarrassing it was to have a brother who still needed diapers at night. It wasn't a grievance out of nowhere, though it was one that was still unfair to pin on Gregory. Earlier in the week, Enzo had excitedly tried to convince his parents about letting him go to 'space camp' in the following Spring. Being an avid enjoyer of all things 'sci-fi' in space, it was a dream camp to be a part of. Their parents had sent the two boys to camp in the past, so Enzo thought it would be an easy sell. As it would turn out, unlike the more general camps that the two had attended, the space camp had higher standards. Enzo's grades were good enough to go, and even Gregory was fit to be in the youngest part of the program, except for one thing: The bedwetting. The camp didn't accommodate bedwetters, and it was an outright disqualification for any of its campers. Enzo wouldn't have cared about that, except that his parents were against letting him go without his little brother. 'It wouldn't be fair' they had said. None of his pleading had convinced them otherwise. Unless his baby brother suddenly became dry in the next few months, then space camp would continue to be but a dream. Which was why Enzo had been so much more irritable the last few days. It was why he was harping so much harder on Gregory for things outside his control. It was why he was doubling down on the crude nicknames and bullying. It was also why Gregory would be left sniffling and cursing his brother's name in the bathroom. He finished brushing his teeth, still upset over what Enzo had said, and he mused out loud: "I-I just wish he could know what it's like to be a bedwetter..." He'd felt a warmth in the pocket of his shorts and he suddenly remembered he'd stowed the stone down there. He removed it and gawked at the way that it seemed to glow. He couldn't explain it, but it made him feel better; it made him realize that he shouldn't let his brother rag on him so unabated. Whenever he returned to his room to get undressed, he stopped by his brother's room to tell him off for all his unfair words; he cracked the door open and was on the receiving end of a sight he couldn't reconcile. His brother was getting ready for bed, but he was getting more than just pajamas on. The older boy was sporting a Goodnite, as casually as if he'd always needed them. "E-Enzo! You pee the bed too?!" The blond turned around and scowled at the unwanted intrusion into his privacy, "Is that some kind of joke, twerp? Get out of my room!" "But you're wearing...You have a Pull-Up on!" "Goodnite, not a Pull-Up. And not like those baby diapers that *you* gotta wear to bed." Enzo hissed, still finding room to be mean, even when he'd been rendered the same kind of sheet-soaker as his brother. Gregory didn't get any more questions in, as his mom tapped him on the shoulder and gently told him to go get ready for bed, while she was going to talk to Enzo. Gregory got back to his room and felt beyond confused at what exactly he'd seen. His big brother had never had a wet night, not since infancy, but it was like that had magically changed. It was at that moment, as he getting his day clothes off, that he again held the stone in his hands and realized how his wish had somehow come true. He'd wished that Enzo knew what it was like to be a bedwetter, and poof! Now Enzo was a bedwetter. It seemed obvious that the mechanism responsible was what he held in his palm. The stone had such a dazzling brilliance, such a radiant light, and such an unearthly warmth, that there could be no other source to give credit to. Faster than most, Gregory identified that he had a Wishstone. But just to confirm it, he decided to shore up the weakness that Enzo had just exploited. Gregory would make sure they had their embarrassing problem handled the same, so that there would be no room for Enzo to belittle him: "I wish Enzo had to wear diapers to bed too, just like me." He stowed the stone away in a drawer and that's where it would stay until the next morning. He hadn't thought much about how he would prove that the second wish had been granted, since it would mean going and snooping around Enzo's room for diapers, but he'd get a more direct answer at breakfast the next day. Enzo, much like Gregory, had come to the kitchen table with a soggy diaper on. For Gregory, he'd always eaten breakfast before getting changed, since his hunger couldn't wait for the rigmarole of cleaning up. Apparently his older brother was the same, which checked out since he usually came to the table in his pajamas. "That thing looks like it's about to fall off." Gregory grinned, feeling bold after seeing how he'd manipulated reality itself. "You musta had too much juice!" Enzo rolled his eyes, "Can it, squirt. You're looking pretty droopy yourself." It was around that point that Gregory could have called it a day on the wishes. From a restrained view, it was plenty retribution to make Enzo suffer the same nocturnal condition that Gregory had; both brothers wore diapers to bed, there was an equity. But as the case tended to be, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Once Gregory had gotten a taste, it wasn't so easy to just be content and to put the stone down for good. There was a real chance here to shift paradigms and reconfigure reality to be more preferable to the long suffering first-grader. Gregory no longer wanted equality, he wanted superiority, and he had the means to make it happen. So, the next morning, before Gregory would come down to eat, he held the pink stone in his hand and thought carefully on how to next deconstruct his dear brother. "I wish...That only Enzo was the bedwetter! And...Umm, that he poops himself during the day sometimes! Like during breakfast!" The stone again reacted in a way that Gregory could only identify as 'happy'. It glowed brightly, mesmerizing the little boy with its iridescent pink light. Gregory didn't even have to see his brother to know the deed had been done; the first clue was the fact that his own soggy diaper had completely disappeared, replaced with a pair of Digimon-printed underpants. Gregory put the stone back in the drawer and sauntered down the steps to strut his newfound superiority over who needed to see it the most. Surely Enzo wouldn't be able to feign an upper hand whenever he was the only diaper boy in the house! As expected, Enzo was already at the table and in a saturated diaper. Like yesterday, he didn't seem to realize what kind of changes had taken place to the reality they inhabited; Gregory was the only one privy to the true past, though even he wasn't sure about all the finer details to this 'new' wish-fueled timeline he'd created. "Hey pee-pee pants." Gregory greeted as he took a seat next to Enzo. "Another soggy morning, huh?" The blond blushed and glowered dowm at the younger boy, "Better watch what you say, twerp. Unless you want a knuckle sandwich for breakfast." Gregory frowned, but he wasn't altogether discouraged. It made sense that Enzo would be defensive over the shameful state of his nighttime continence, especially now that it was only the 'big brother' who was left waking up in urine drenched diapers. Still, Gregory had been hoping for a little less bravado. Luckily, the second part of his wish wouldn't take long to follow through. While shoveling scrambled eggs and bacon into his mouth, Enzo had leaned ever so gently over in his kitchen chair. A low, ripe burble of gas rasped wetly against the saturated bottom of the diaper's padding; it was short and muffled, but it was also very juicy and foreboding. And then he tooted again, a little more loudly. "Enzo. Do you need to go to the bathroom?" Their mother asked pointedly from where she stood at the coffee pot. "I don't want to have to clean another number two, mister. You're old enough to know better." The remark was casual yet stern. It spoke to a sordid history of infrequent pantspooping; not often enough to be completely accustomed to it, but enough to not be altogether surprised and to have an annoyance towards it. Enzo blushed, "N-no, I don't need to go..." Gregory knew that was a lie, but he just smiled and kept his mouth shut. Thanks to his wish, he knew it was only a matter of moments before Enzo was sitting on something smelly and squishy. As anticipated, the gas returned for one last blustery sputter, but it yielded its crescendo to a gross crackling sound that ended in a wet, heavy plop. Enzo's eyes bugged out when it happened, and Gregory could watch as his whole posture became rigid and anxious. If there had been more background noise to mask it, like in a public space, then it probably wouldn't have been noticeable, but the kitchen was as silent as could be. "Mommy! I think Enzo just poopied his wet DIAPER." Gregory needlessly announced, as if she hadn't heard the foul act in its entirety. "S-shut up, twerp!" Their mother sighed and massaged the bridge of her nose, "Gregory, don't tattle on your big brother, and Enzo, don't tell your little brother to shut up. I think we all heard what happened. Enzo, go put your plate in the sink and go wait in your room for me." Enzo rubbed tears out of his eyes and sniffled as he stood up. The soaked diaper hung lower now that there was a steaming weight nestled in the back, like a smelly little dumbbell. The back of the white garment sagged in such a way that pronounced the mass, like a rounded bulge, and the boy had to toddle broadly across the floor to go put his plate away. "Go get ready for school, sweetie." Their mother said to Gregory as she went to hurry along with packing their lunches, now that time was a bigger factor. "Okay, mommy." It felt a little odd to have some extra time before school, since he wasn't getting changed out of a wet diaper, so he decided to poke his head into Enzo's room, where the older boy was sulking with his arms crossed. He was standing and shifting his weight from foot to foot, obviously not wanting to sit down in his own filth. "Hiya poopy-pants. You sure are stinky!" Gregory childishly chirped as he let himself in. "Get out of my room, Gregory! I mean it!" Undeterred, the younger boy continued his way inside and kept an amused smile on his face. "If you wear diapers and drop fudge in 'em, then you're not really the big brother, huh?" Gregory would have never been so bold against the boy before the influence of the Wishstone had entranced him, but now he felt invincible, like nothing could stop him from getting what he deserved. In some way, it was almost as if he was daring Enzo to give him a reason to use the stone's power even further. "That's it, you little brat..." Enzo snarled, leering down at Gregory and moving his arms to take care of business. In one fell swoop, he'd grabbed the back of Gregory's waistband and given him one heck of a wedgie. Enzo was poorly coordinated from the loaded diaper around his waist, but he could still do something as classic and simple as that. He didn't let go until Gregory was squirming and whining at him to stop. "Now beat it! Don't forget who the bigger one around here is, pipsqueak. I'm older, I'm bigger, I'm stronger, and I'm smarter; ain't nothing gonna change that!" Gregory retreated back to his room, pulling at his wedgie and steaming mad that he'd gotten the exact result he should have already predicted. He now had pretense to use the stone again, the only question was what he would target first: age, size, strength, or intelligence?Comments
