As an extra note to my vote for only sticking to mag weapons to prevent open corpo hostilities. It would be fine to break out the energy weapons way later, after Watson has been thoroughly claimed and scrubbed clean down to the foundations to become a test bed for our boi's inventions. He has the civilian tech of both Titanfall, Become Human and Fallout to create unique and superior tech to use for infrastructure and to sell for consumers. And as we know, the cops and hospitals are corpo funded and the streets do have defensive turrets built into places, so security and medical care in Watson can be entirely provided by his corp, and geared to his desired specs. So unless Militech, Arasaka and Biotechnica want to war, they're gonna have to throw bodies to claim every inch of the streets

I just think Mag Weapons are much cooler. And they generally have a much higher power ceiling as personal weapons. Lasers have significant limits in-atmosphere, and to overcome those you need a lot more power output than a magnetic weapon. Easeir to just go the Halo Route and fire tungsten rounds at Mach 40. Idk about beam weapons, but I'd be fine with them I guess.
