Results of "Next Specs" Poll and Next Steps...
🕑 Added 2018-05-27 20:46:18 +0000 UTC I went ahead and compiled the comments and likes on each spec in the poll, and the results have Demonology in the lead, with Assassination and Fury close behind.So, after Enhancement, Retribution, and Beast Mastery are fully functional in the new specialization system (they almost are!), those will be the next specs to be built.
The good news with spec development is that I spent a lot of time this week helping to automate my spec building tool. While I can't reliably automate the scripts for what an ability does when used, I have improved my ability to detect buffs/debuffs (and their durations, stacking information, etc.) and abilities (with cast times, costs, and most of the basic information).
That makes it easier for me to move on to writing scripts that handle ability mechanics and interactions. For example, when I work on Demonology, I'll have to manually write the script that the addon uses to simulate summoning specific demons. I have to hardcode factors that influence ability costs or cast times. But that part is a lot more interesting and engaging than poring over the spellbook to make sure I don't make a typo when manually entering spell IDs and so forth.
I am hoping to have a new beta build released by Tuesday evening that will have the new spec modules for Enhancement, Retribution, and Beast Mastery in place. The major pieces left for that are getting the new display system and new packaging system for action lists in place, so that I can get some default settings in place for you all to use.
