Geo studies lakes that are mysterious due to natural phenomena and scientific oddities (rather than conspiracy theories or the supernatural). For instance:
Lake Maracaibo (Venezuela) experiences nearly constant lightning strikes -- up to 28 strikes per minute
Lake Natron (Tanzania) is a hot, blood red lake so caustic it petrifies animals that die in it
Lake Karachay (Russia) was a dumping ground for nuclear waste in the 1950s, making its radioactivity comparable to the Chernobyl disaster
