[ scene opens with Claude walking down the hallway, leaving work. ]
[ his phone rings ]
Claude: [ frustrated sigh ] What now? [ small pause for Claude checking his phone ] Jules… Haven’t heard from him in a while.
[ Claude picks up the call. ]
Claude: [ annoyed ] Allo, Jules. What do you want? I was about to leave the job. [ small silence ] L… Late delivery? Why should I be picking up your grandiose arrangem- [ small pause ] … [stunned] Is it today?
[ there is another pause, indicating that Jules is rambling and Claude is starting to get a little annoyed ]
Claude: [ sternly ] Shut up. Calm down. I’ll pick it up for you. [ small pause ] I am only doing it so you can stop yapping at my ear.
[ there is now a slightly angry tone to his voice, but still calm. ]
Claude: [defeated sigh] I apologize for forgetting it was today. Ya know- They have been on my ass for new submissions and samples.
[ another small pause as Jules begins to rant again. Claude’s frustration is showing but he is not blowing a fuse. ]
Claude: [ frustrated groan ] No need to bring up our mother and Alan to try and guilt trip me. It wasn’t my intention to forget their anniversary. I am not your personal delivery boy, especially when you are the one forgetting your own order. You should start being more responsible, salaud.
[ small silence ]
Claude: [ big sigh ] I’ll be there in half an hour or so. Visit Mother’s grave and plan something for Alan. Oh, and you owe me dinner.
[ Next scene opens with Claude arriving home, later than usual. You heard him opening the door to his home. ]
Claude: [ grumbling to himself ] Ugh, I am starving. Last time I did him a favor… Now it’s too late to cook anything for myself. Hopefully, I had some leftov- Shit!
[ Claude knocks over a tower of videotapes, landing all over the floor ]
Claude: Didn’t mean to do that. [ sighs ] I should really move these out of the way. These tapes are just collecting dust, and it’s not like-
[ Clause stops speaking, reading the label of the tape ]
Claude: [ stunned ] Mom’s tapes. What are these doing out? I thought I put them away in the attic… Hmph.
[ Small pause as Claude looks around the house, noticing an empty wine bottle. He reopens the cork. ]
Claude: Empty… Je ne suis pas surpris…. [ sighs ] I guess… I wouldn’t hurt.
[ Claude fumbles with the tapes, but successfully inserts one of the tapes. We hear only static until a feminine voice comes up. ]
Ophelia: [ fumbling over the camera, she is muttering ] No this isn’t the right button… or is it? Wait.. Hmm… [ realization ] Oh. It was? I think it’s on… The red means it's on, right? Okay!
Claude: [ His voice is softer but focused ] What year was this?

Claude: … I should start leaving some notes for drunk me around the house. It is already a detriment that today was the anniversary of her death and Alan’s disappearance. Here I am, taking all the blame while Jules takes nothing and nags me about it… Fucker doesn’t know all we have is each other now.
[ Claude takes out the tape, tossing it aside. ]
Claude: [ serious ] Some people aren’t meant to be in your life the whole way through, you should know right, maman?
