I see Izzy/Ed/Stede dynamic as a love triangle, Izzy is a kinkster, he gets off on being mistreated emotionally and physically and he loves Blackbeard for that. So when Stede shows up and Blackbeard starts to become someone else and leave behind his cruelty, Izzy’s ultimately just jealous and wants his domme boyfriend back. I haven’t watched the next season so I don’t know if it becomes more of a thing or not but I definitely got that impression watching season 1.

The thing you have to understand about Stede is that he honestly believed Chauncey that he'd just end up ruining Ed/Ed's life AND his self-confidence is so bad that he can't imagine Ed could really be that affected by him leaving and would probably end up realizing he's better off without him. And what you have to understand about Ed is that he desperately wanted out, Stede was the first person that gave him hope that he could lead a different life and even when Stede 'rejected' him (to Ed it must have felt like Stede had probably just wanted 'Blackbeard', not Edward)—he did some pretty standard healthy coping, opened up to the crew, STILL wanted to try 'just being Edward'—until Izzy basically threatened him and told him he'd rather Ed was dead than 'just Edward'. That's when Ed gave up (Honestly, from Izzy's facial expression/ tone of voice, I think he was either into the toe thing or at least felt that it was worth it... same with his facial expression after getting choked...)
