About Robin learning French without being taught is mostly just him learning like a child picks up their language. Since he would not have had any language at all at the start he had to pick up any languages that way. It’s just repetition and figuring out what they mean by observation and deduction. It’s how he learned English and apparently also French and Russian

Yeah Ben also wrote the French parts of the script and someone else who was fluent in French recorded it for Laurence to learn it phonetically

I think Ben put in the Russian joke at the end. Ben studied French and Russian at Oxford University. He was in a comedy French rap duo.

You do miss out on a lot of the jokes if you don’t know the game shows they’re doing. By the way, Larry has won Mastermind, Ben and Larry have won Pointless as a team, Ben and Jim have won Pointless as a team and Larry and Jim have both won House of Games. There are strong rumours that one of the six idiots is on the next series of Taskmaster.

The backstory with Robin, Humphrey and Sophie is so sweet and heartbreaking. Alison doesn’t speak French. It’s Robin translating for her in the last scene. He’s stood behind her.
