But treachery and hate brought destruction to the Beacon City, and a great storm sank it beneath the waves. Only Ahes Dahut, the Princess of Kernev, remained, trapped by a powerful curse in the form of a mermaid in the silent city beneath the waves. Driven by her loneliness, Ahes sought to recreate the spell that cursed her, transforming other lonely souls into mermaids, rebuilding her city and her family.
Princess Beladore of Gwened had been unhappy, trapped in a lie as the perfect daughter of the Kont, shown off to an increasing amount of suitors, resigned to the fate of her birth. That changed when she met the Yannic Corentin, a Marie-Morgane raider who had become lost in a storm, ending up in the castle pond. The princess struck up a friendship, and eventually, a romantic relationship with the other girl, convincing Yannic to help her escape, which they did. Beladore eagerly joined the ranks of the Marie-Morgane, a series of events leading to the transformation of local hero Dominique during a botched rescue attempt. Now, Beladore lives her true life in Ys-Beneath-the-Waves, using her skills at statecraft to assist Queen Ahes in rebuilding the Beacon City.

Beladore is a fun character, a "damsel in distress", who is in fact, overjoyed at her "kidnapping", having orchestrated it largely herself. Beladore is inspired by a real folkloric character, a Princess of Vannes, who distressed at her upcoming marriage, fled to the castle pond to become a mermaid. I wanted to give her a happy ending and pay tribute to a small bit of mythology, and Beladore has evolved into her own role in the story of the Marie-Morgane of Kroashent.
