1000 Diapers
🕑 Added 2022-07-31 10:23:57 +0000 UTCCarlos had an obsession as of late, it had begun to eat up a lot of his free time he would normally spend going out with friends. It was such a strange hobby, if you could even call it that. The kind of weird that might end up on a, ‘my strange life’ type of television show. Ever since running down to the shops and seeing a ‘win a copy of Call of Duty’ flyer attached to the supermarket wall with a QR code to enter, is where it all began. He did it on a whim, he never entered competitions before, but the fact he was low on cash and really wanted the game he decided to give it a shot. He had zero expectations about winning; all the competition was asking for were his personal information to send out a boring survey about what type of games he likes.
By the time the deadline drew to a close Carlos had completely forgotten about it. It was several weeks after ending his mother came barging into his bedroom.
“Carlos, package for you.” She told him plainly before tossing it over to him.
He looked up at her curiously but she had already left the room before he had a chance to digest the small parcel in front of him. He hadn’t ordered anything online; he was still completely drained of money. He really didn’t know what to expect when he tore it open, but the new sealed copy of Call of Duty that he realise was now caused his smile to light up the room.
“Wholly shit.” He cried.
“Carlos?” His mother came barging in once again.
He held up the game to her like he was replaying a scene from the Lion King.
“Mum I won, I can’t believe it.” He said turning the game over and looking at the back, still very much in disbelief.
She seemed disinterested and shook her head before leaving, muttering something in Spanish about boys and their stupid video games.
Carlos barely looked over the leaflet that congratulated him on being one of the five winners before he had torn open the package and practically flung the disc into his PlayStation. The game booted up quickly and he was soon completely enveloped in it, only stopping when his mother came in and threatened to rip the cord from the back if he didn’t come down and eat dinner.
It was several weeks later he was shopping at the same grocery store with his mother, and by chance he stumbled across the same bulletin board this time it had several different competitions all with a similar QR code he could scan.
An Amazon gift card, a deluxe make up kit, a month of free coffee and a brand new four wheel drive.
‘What the heck,’he shrugged before scanning every code and entering each of the competitions. Again he answered some simple surveys and not long into the future his mother was chucking another parcel onto his lap.
This time he tore into it like a starved ravenous beast, there was much less excitement he sighed, as he looked at the makeup with much less interest than the video game he had received previously.
It was a far stretch from the car he hoped to win but it was still something for free. He picked up the makeup kit and returned to his mother in the living room.
“Here this is for you.” He told her casually giving handing it back to her.
“CARLOS, BABY.” She swooned, running over and throwing her arms around him before smothering him in kisses.
He tried explaining he won it and it wasn’t like he went out and bought it from her, again his mother seemed to either not be listening or simply not interested, she was too caught up in the excitement for her new gift.
Carlos wasn’t entirely sure if the ecstasy he felt running through his veins was from the feeling he got doing something nice for his mother, or adrenaline caused by the fact he had won something again. Either way the next morning he eagerly accompanied his mother to the shops and ran straight over to the bulletin board, ignoring his mother’s requests telling him to slow down.
His heart sank when he looked over the board and the only thing he saw were ads for someone selling furniture. His luck had to run out eventually he realised, walking back over to his mother in defeat.
Was it by fate or complete luck that he stumbled across a display of baked beans with a ‘WIN BIG’ sign plastered all around it. He looked all over for a QR code before he finally gave up and realised he was just supposed to go the website to enter the competition.
He blindly followed his mother while tapping across his phone, pretending to listen to whatever it was that she was telling him. He thought the link he was supposed to type in would take him to the website of the company that made the beans but instead it took him somewhere unexpected. He quickly followed the prompts and made an account, ignoring all the privacy and information acts displayed and carelessly entered in all his personal information. Instantly he was confronted with pages and pages of competitions, he quickly forgot all about the beans and began entering everything as fast as his hands could type he started filling out surveys.
After he accidentally bumped into his mother she slapped him on the arm and threatened to take away his phone if he wasn’t more careful. He reluctantly put it away until the moment they got back in the car and again he started tapping away. Carlos wasn’t even entirely sure what he was entering but he figured who cares he could sell whatever it was that he decided not to keep.
Over the next couple of days he thought he would run out of giveaways to enter, but it was like this site collaborated all of the competitions in the state he even entered some across the other side of the country, not realising until it finally told him he would be ineligible due to the distance.
Finally after almost a week of being glued to his phone his mother had had enough and forced him to get off or she would start making him pay for his own phone plan. To his credit he actually listened to her, he felt like an addict going cold turkey and wished he could go back on but thought better of it. After another week had gone by of Carlos constantly checking the mail to see if he had won anything he began to think maybe it was all a scam, until after a few more days passed and a truck pulled up to their house.
His mother looked cautiously out the window but it was Carlos who practically flew to the door and opened it without care what might be waiting on the other side.
“Are you Carlos?” The delivery driver asked, quite taken aback but how quickly he had appeared at the door.
“Yes that’s me.” He eagerly nodded.
“Sign here.”
Carlos signed his name not even caring to realise what he was signing his name for.
The truck was quite big, he remembered entering a competition for a new smart television surely it had to be that, he doubted it would even fit in their living room but he was too excited to care.
“Baby, what did you order this time?” His mother asked standing beside him.
“I don’t know mum but I must have won something big.” He replied beaming.
He watched as the driver pulled a sack trolley down the pavement, carrying with it a bunch of smaller plain looking boxes definitely nothing that would fit a television. Both he and his mother watched curiously as the driver dumped them off in the living room.
“Alright I’ll see you guys in a couple of weeks.” He told them mysteriously before seeing himself out.
His mother grabbed the envelope from the top of the stack but Carlos was too eager to see what he had won and tore open the first package.
“What the hell….”He grumbled.
Diapers, it was diapers an entire case of about fifty of them.
“This doesn’t make any sense.” He said rubbing his temple in confusion.
“Ouch!” He suddenly cried, reeling from the slap his mother had given him with the rolled up shipping dossier.
His mother peered over at the package hardly able to keep a straight face.
“CARLOS, why do you enter this and not tell me you need diapers.”
He stared back at her blankly and took the envelope from her.

“I ummmmm, I don’t…..”Carlos was lost for words.
“MUM.” He suddenly shouted as she roughly pulled down his pants.
“Tell me these things Carlos; we don’t keep secrets in this house.”
He put up a fight, as much of a struggle as he could manage but soon he was completely pant less and looking up desperately from the carpet of the living room while his mother rummaged through the boxes. He was in too much shock to really do much of anything, conveniently they had included a box of powders, cream’s, lotions and wipes and his mother quickly made use of them.
Before he knew it she was dolloping cream over his boy parts, commenting about the hair and telling him that she would have to remove that night when he took his bath, ignoring the fact he normally showered as if that was the strangest thing that was happening to him right now.
“MUM, stoooooop.” He begged, sounding incredibly to anyone who heard his cries.
“Ayyyy.” His mother yelled, slapping the leg away that had kicked her in the chest.
“Stop fussing, I need to get you in your diaper.”
Carlos eyes screamed out in terror the words that he was to frozen to speak. He couldn’t fathom why she was doing this, treating him like a baby as if any part of this was normal.
She effortlessly raised his bottom before pulling one of the crinkly diapers under his bottom.
Carlos bit his lip and cringed; his mother was cooing and began humming a familiar tune he recognised from his childhood. It seemed to have its intended effect and he finally calmed down, putting away any ideas of offering up any resistance he allowed her to pull the tapes up and seal him into the soft diaper.
She smiled at him before standing up and leaving to wash her hands, leaving Carlos sitting on the carpet feeling very much like a baby. He poked the front of his padding curiously and before he could really piece the reasons why together, he pushed down and peed into his diaper.
“CARLOS.” His mother cried as she re-entered the room and spied the soggy diaper.
Quickly she pushed him back to the carpet and started changing his diaper, muttering what a big baby her son was.
‘Only 999 more to go.’He thought quietly to himself, hiding behind a cheeky grin.
