Eventually dinner rolled around and for the most part things had gone back to normal. Marvin was speaking to his Aunt and cousin and they were all laughing and catching up on what was going on in their lives. Unfortunately Marvin had significantly less to add to the conversation, there were only so many ways you could sugar coat what was essentially becoming a hermit within his own bedroom playing computer games and refusing to look for work since leaving school. If a job was planted right upon his lap of course he would take the opportunity he just lacked the motivation to find one himself. He kept making convenient excuses, not sure what he wanted to do with his life, he was unqualified or there was just no one hiring were all things he kept telling his mother and himself in order to avoid searching. On more than a few occasions he had actually looked for one, after his mother helped him update his resume with a less than honest employment history.
His mother hated lying, but she was willing to bend her own moral code if it meant her son would finally get a job and start taking some responsibility in his life. Unfortunately when it came to the interview it was all left to Marvin, she couldn’t exactly walk down to the meeting with her son and hold his hand telling his potential employer how great of an asset he would be. That’s where he always flopped, she even followed him once without his knowledge just to make sure he was attending the interviews and not just sneaking off to go hang out with his friends. She felt ashamed when she watched him get off the bus and actually attend the interview, it was the first time she had felt pride in her son since he had left school. Unfortunately he was just not suitable for the position, she bought him take away that night and Marvin was surprised like he was being rewarded for failing. It was mostly for Mary’s own benefit to alleviate some of her guilt for spying on her son, but she had to make sure he was actually trying.
The next half of his ‘gap year’ was spent basically doing nothing; it’s why Marvin has ended up where he is now. Mary had to do something to try getting him out of his rut before he ended up waking up one day and he was thirty, still living at home and unemployed. The idea of him living at home was never an issue for her, she loved her son and was going to hate the day he eventually decided to move out. Her problem was she didn’t want him to miss out on some of the best years of his life spending them in isolation, while everyone else he knew grew up and drifted away from her reclusive son. She yearned for the time when he was still just a little baby, back when she did everything for him. She wouldn’t feel any worries or stress her baby was always with her and she needed not worry about his future, she could just live in the moment.
As dinner concluded Mildred made one final comment before heading off to do the washing up. “Marvin, I swear if that’s the state of your shirt after every meal next time we eat I will make you wear a bib.”
Marvin blushed and looked down at his shirt, a few tomato sauce stains had dripped onto him from his burger. The result of his rushed attempt at eating to return to his room for some much needed sleep after today’s debacle. Marvin considered his retort but seeing his Aunt had left the room he quickly decided to show some maturity and grabbed some dishes to help with the cleaning. What he didn’t see was the half full glass of water Jill had precariously stacked toward the edge of the table. As Marvin went to reach for her plate she clumsily let out an ‘oops’ as she knocked it over, soaking his jeans and crotch.
“What did you do that for?” said the infuriated Marvin.
“Me? It’s not my fault you wet your pants little cousin, you just couldn’t hold it, don’t worry I’m sure my mom can help your little accident.”
Marvin looked on in disbelief; he started to feel mildly panicked, was Jill really going to tell his Aunt he wet himself. Who would she believe he began to worry, after everything that happened today he was afraid it wasn’t going to be his story.
He quickly decided to play it off as one big joke. “Haha Jill very funny, y..you’re not actually going to tell your mom I wet myself right? She wouldn’t believe it.”
“What’s the matter little cousin, are you worried she will believe me if I say you wet your pants, is this something that happens regularly. It looks like you’re not as mature as you try and let off, maybe you should go back to diapers just to be safe, what do you think?” Jill said revelling in the power she felt suddenly over her humiliated cousin.
“IM NOT A BABY.” Marvin shouted, as he accidently dropped a glass shattering it in the process.
Mildred quickly came barging into the room. “What on earth is going on here?” She demanded seeing her nephew in wet pants and a shattered glass on the floor. “Marvin did you wet your pants, tell me what happened.”
Her voice was stern, shocked and slightly sympathetic. Before Marvin could speak Jill spoke up for him. “He was trying to help you clean up when he spilled the water on himself; I didn’t see what happened so I asked if he had an accident. Then he just flipped out on me and dropped the glass.”
Marvin was stunned, this wasn’t true out all, but it had given him an out, at least she hadn’t told his Aunt that he had wet himself.
“Marvin is this true?” Mildred asked, Marvin looked down at his feet as he nodded his head. “I really don’t know what’s going on with you, but I can definetly see why your mother is fed up with you. This is your second tantrum today, maybe you just need rest and you will do better tomorrow.”
Marvin shifted awkwardly on his feet. “Sorry, I’m just tired and I wanted to help.”
Mildred shook her head and quickly changing her stance. “That’s ok Marvin, thank you for helping it was a long trip here so come with me and we will get you cleaned up.”
Before he knew what was happening Mildred had grabbed his hand and was now leading him toward his bedroom. She took him into the room and shut the door before turning and reaching for the first button on his jeans.
“W.. what are you doing?” Marvin sputtered out trying to sound demanding.
“Shhhhh.” Mildred cooed. “Just let me take care of it you’ve had a long day.”
Marvin stopped resisting and allowed himself to be undressed by his Auntie. In one swoop she had pulled his wet jeans and underpants down and he clumsily stepped out of them. She took away his shirt leaving the young man now standing naked in front of his Aunt for the first time in as long as he could remember. Mildred grabbed a towel from the linen cupboard and gently patted around Marvin’s legs, soaking up any of the water that had leaked through. After cleaning around his groin she left the towel with the rest of his dirty clothes and looked satisfied.
“Now it’s up to you if you want a shower or not before bedtime, if you need anything I’ll just be doing the washing up.” Mildred said, she headed off out of the room but quickly turned around before leaving. “Oh and don’t forget to use the potty before bed Marvin, we wouldn’t want you having any ‘real’ accident’s would we?” She left the room smiling, leaving her naked nephew standing alone in his bedroom trying to process what had just happened.
