What Do You Deserve?
🕑 Added 2023-12-11 15:42:53 +0000 UTCRecently I sent a text to someone who hurt me to tell him what I had actually deserved in that relationship. It ended up being a good exercise for me in recognizing how I should be treated, by myself and others. That list was different than this, but here’s how I’m feeling today:
I deserve to be seen for who I am, not as an object
I do not deserve to be abandoned
I deserve love, care, and attention in the same way I give
I deserve reciprocal affection
I deserve clear and honest communication
I deserve to be protected and never used for someone else’s pleasure and then discarded
I deserve to be seen and regarded as a real person

Honesty, communication, and…vulnerability. And yet that last…is truly one of the things you cannot expect someone to turn off or on simply because it is asked. And you facilitate it by offering the above three things—safety and intimacy, in all the ways you can define it. But lifelong lesson for the empath: You cannot ever rescue, heal, or save someone else (nor can you expect them to do the same for you). We’re all in varying stages of being vulnerable with ourselves, let alone another. It is something I hope to find, though. In the right person, at the right time, and being what I can be for them (and myself) given the lessons I learned in my past mistakes.

When I left Mormonism, I lost a lot of family and friends. One thing I truly learned to appreciate was independence. Mormonism focuses a lot on our ability to only rely on Christ. Though I left Christianity, I dug in deeper to becoming self sufficient and sustaining, but through getting to know and love myself. I think we all deserve to recognize, love and appreciate our independent value.
