It’s about the Duggar family, but more about “Gothardism” and the fundamentalist Christian homeschooling movement that shaped my own childhood. I watched last night and while it was exciting to see many of my friends and TikTok mutuals sharing their story in the documentary, it was difficult to watch because I know it all too well. It was very personal for me. And heartbreaking.
I definitely encourage everyone to watch Shiny Happy People. These beliefs weren’t just for us fringe weirdos, they have had a big impact on mainstream evangelical Christianity and now right wing politics as well. I’d love to hear what you think after you watch!
I was kind of depressed after watching so I took these silly pictures. 😁😁😁 If nothing else, I’m so glad I’m free now.
