This characterization of seraph is really interesting. It makes us question exactly how much of his reputation is a front. Of course some if it is, everyone has a public face. But we've had other characters describe Roland as very nice in the past. Theres also the possibility that as Lia resists he sees her as less a fellow keeper, and more a rouge threat he needs to contain. Explaing the shift towards violence. We are also uncertain the degree to which emergence influences personality, we've seen some weird quirks already, but they could just be normal or at least nonmagical traits. The cherry on top is the way his mask prevents us( and Lia) from judging him via facial expressions. From Lia's perspective his characterization is being pushed towards an unsympathetic monster. This could be his true self, or just one perspective. Very well done. Im really hoping we later get a scene of someone, (aiesling, or shona) telling Roland off for how he handled this. "We made so much progress getting her out of her shell, then you had to go box her into a corner and treat her like a threat. Now no one can contact her!" It would be very cathartic i think.

Honestly really like this, the depiction of the seraph feels very real and is great at building him as an evil of grey character that I hate while not just being cartoonishly evil. So like I can actually believe that he could be a popular character in spite of his flaws bc he only really shows them when he thinks he can get away with it and/or gaslights people about what he's actually doing. Also the action is pretty cool
