In regards to the Roblox controversy, I imagine their legal department is hesitant to be seen as directly condoning the actions of the so called “vigilantes” based on the *possibility* that someone looking to expose a suspected predator might publicly falsely accuse an individual, who may in turn lose employment or suffer some other form of loss or harassment as a result, which could rope the company into potential lawsuits. By starting from a baseline saying they don’t condone the behavior of these “vigilantes” they are reducing their legal exposure. That said, Ian is absolutely right that the attempt to paint an equivalency between predators and those trying to expose them is a bizarre statement to leave out there, and the company clearly needs to step up their detection and enforcement efforts.
