Status of Ongoing Projects
🕑 Added 2023-05-20 15:44:52 +0000 UTCHey all! As mentioned in a few previous posts, my two current projects are the Sims 4 Toolkit VS Code extension (a tool for modders) and milestones for events, festivals, and holidays.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you likely know that I am terrible at estimating release dates. I always think I’ll get things done sooner than I do, and I announce them too soon. Unfortunately, this has happened again with both of these projects, so I just wanted to be transparent about where they both currently stand.
Sims 4 Toolkit VS Code Extension
First off, what is it?
Sims 4 Toolkit is a Node.js library I created to help modders make their projects more efficiently. The problem is that the library can only be used by people familiar with Node.js, as it requires you to write scripts yourself.
In an effort to make S4TK more accessible, I’ve created an extension for VS Code that lets you use S4TK features without writing any code yourself. You can now build entire gameplay mods using S4TK without writing a single line of JavaScript/TypeScript - all you have to do is edit a JSON file that tells S4TK what to do.
And where does it stand?
The extension itself is ready for an initial release, and has been for a couple days. I attempted to publish it to the VSC marketplace, but I learned that they do not accept alpha releases. So, I needed to add a little more polish, and still need to finish the documentation website before I share it publicly.
The good news is, though, that the documentation website is pretty much done infrastructure-wise, and now I’m just filling in the content. The website includes information about VS Code itself, the extension, guides on how to get started, and more technically-specific documentation for each individual feature.
I am really hoping to get the website done within the next few days, but that’s what I said last week. So, it’ll just be done with it’s done, and then I’ll publish the extension.
Events & Holidays Milestones
I technically started the milestones weeks ago, and have a lot of the files required for the initial setup done. However, a lot more thought and care needs to go into them, and they are nowhere near ready to be shared. I have not and will not be working on them any more until the S4TK VSC extension is published, which could possibly take another week or two, I really don’t know. I’ll keep you updated on the status of these as they progress.
Reminder: My Refund Policy
Since I gave an incorrect estimate for when early access would start, I’d like to remind you of my refund policy here on Patreon, in case anyone was mislead and signed up for early access when it wasn’t available.
Any patrons who have not received any benefits since the last billing cycle can request a full refund, and I will grant it, no questions asked. This includes:
- Members of the $1 (General Support) tier, at any time
- Members of the $2 (Pancakes) and $4 (Goths) tiers, when nothing is in early access
- Members of the $8 (Landgraabs) tier, when nothing is in early access and if they haven’t requested any personalized mod versions
So, as long as you’re not a Landgraab with a personalized mod version, you’re currently eligible for a refund. Please let me know if you’d like one via a message here on Patreon. Again, sorry for the delay on those milestones.
