Thanks!

Should “He said he was a trait that would do well in the Eternal Flame Clan.” be: “He said it was a trait that would do well in the Eternal Flame Clan.”

Amelgar

That sounds alot like something Lu Mei would do... Though I can't really seeing her poking at Huang Shin atm for fun

Dimitri Valenkov

Wait so is Huang shing the subversion of a protagonist who’s fiancé betrayed him because he isn’t talented enough?

Guy

Yeah this was probably how things were going to turn out.

DowagerOfVeils

"He is Huang Shing's friend, and he is a Core Disciple of the Xiao Sect" Should be Eternal Flame Sect instead of Xiao Sect, here.

LordMarksman

I feel for Huang Shin I really do, poor guy deserved better. I understand Yi Jiao's actions and her basically just procrastinating dealing with issue because she was nervous/scared. But considering how long they have known each other and fact Huang Shin could have very likely well got himself killed. She really should have talked to him way earlier. She did no one any favors here by acting this way. It's just fortunate that things didn't blow up as bad as they did and were resolved in the end. As far as their friendship goes, I... honestly not sure if she deserves it after this. I mean sure she sent letter to inform situation, but if Liu Jin didn't intervene here she would have just stayed silent and proceeded to let Feng Zhi and Huangshin maim each other due to being too scared to speak out. This is besides all the times Huang Shin could have died until this point because of his attempt to "save her" I see some people claiming Huang Shin desire for Yi Jiao rescue is more for his honor but I don't agree. I do think that is a part of it, but Huang Shin is a very loyal and sincere person even if a bit direct. I think he sincerely wanted to save her, his reaction here leads me to believe it more too. This is just a really crappy situation for him and poor guy deserves better. I hope he doesn't end up losing his drive, develop a heart demon, or like super stagnate in his cultivation over this. I am glad that Liu Jin was there for him and showed it. In those sorts of situations it means a lot when your buddy is willing to be there for you even if Huang Shin just wanted to be alone for now he won't forget that Liu Jin was there. Seriously poor Huang Shin he really did deserve better. Hopefully he finds a good girl for himself in future and doesn't get taken advantage by some scheming thot. Also to clarify I'm not calling Yi Jiao in particular a scheming thot with that last sentence. I literally mean that in moment of vulnerability he is obvious going to experience. Some pretty vixem is going to take advantage of him and get him all twisted up utilizing him for her benefit while taking advantage of his vulnerable emotional state.

Kiwilord

Huang shin should just acknowledge what he was chasing never existed and move on. Maybe pursue immortality like a sane person

Amelgar

Feng Zhi seems to have a talent for making things unnecessarily complicated

Robert Davidson

Do not underestimate Huang Shing's shonen protagonist powers. Now that he knows Feng Zhi was helping Jiao, not abducting her, Zhi is gonna get befriended right in the face.

MasterofNova

But she did think of him? She said she sent a letter to her family and to Shing but he had dipped before it got there, so she tried to communicate but it was too late. Also she’s completely right in that normal peeps don’t go after princes of nations (effectively what a young master of one of the Great Sects are) when their lady-friend is taken. It’s something out of a fairy tale that was completely outside the realm of reason.

Hangwind

Nah. Let her go and (potentially) continue to be a stumbling block for Feng Zhi.

Gavriel

Good good, well that's an awkward best friend moment; doesn't appear Huang Shin was "in love" best friends yes, honestly this is the best ending Although it's a big oof that he spent so much unnecessary effort, at least he's far more powerful than he'd otherwise be Feng Zhe should be relieved, Huang Shin will eventually surpass him if he doesn't speed up

Jesus Volcan

I think the part that really made me sad about their situation is that YI never really thought of him until his arrival to the clan and her surprise of challenging the clan but the moment Huang said of course he would as she is his best friend, maybe may her realize she was a little selfish hence the look of pity. Well better to rip off that bandaid and move on for him

marconjecture

Perfectly done. Very relatable. I wonder, if Huang Shing's and Yi Jiao's friendship can deescalate Feng Zhi's distrust of Liu Jin, or whether his obvious jealousy of Huang Shing's closeness with his lover/concubine will lead to further paranoia on his part. Who am I kidding! They are cultivating hotheads.

Robert Davidson

Huh. I have to admit I didn't see this coming, and in hindsight I totally should. Well done. (Also, anyone who isn't rooting for Shing and Jiao to repair their friendship has no soul. He's got enough shonen protagonist in him to do it, too.)

JoBo12

Yi seems very human in her flaws. I have known enough people irl that can't bring themselves to address a problem even though it will only be harder the more they push it into the future.

Catherine

I admit that this chapter makes me think poorly of Yi. I understand why she did what she did but she has handled the fallout so poorly. By refusing to talk to Shing on his arrival at the eternal flame clan she has left Shing and Zhi to fight over her. If she hadn’t been forced to talk to Shing and tell him the truth the fights would have kept escalating and one of them would have ended up severely injured

Javier Hernandez

Big oof indeed.

Catherine

I don’t think it was all about honour. The fight with Feng Zhi was pride but the rescue of Yi was all about his best friend being kidnapped. It appears that their friendship was unequal to begin with. Shing tried to go against one of the 4 big clans to rescue his best friend whereas Yi didn’t tell him the truth until she was forced to. It would be different if she had told him as soon as she knew he was in the eternal flame clan but she didn’t. Hopefully they both move on although I don’t see their friendship staring back up again anytime soon, certainly not as it was. Maybe later

JoBo12

This also feels bad for Feng Zhi. He was occupied with this problem for quite some time, thought he was doing the right thing and once again Liu Jin's suggestion leads to more progress in a single night than Feng Zhi achieved in many months.

JoBo12

They truly were not a good match. They never loved each other. Yi Jiao failed to take Huang Shing's feelings into account before leaving with Feng Zhi. For Huang this became less and less about the rescue of a friend and more about his own honor and Yi as a price to be reclaimed from a perceived arrogant young master. With this reality check Huang will have to find a new motivation for his path in cultivation.

unsaintlyangel

"She says it softly, her tone almost apologetic, yet Feng Zhi feels as if she had driven all the air out of his lungs with a vicious blow." Should probably be Huang Shing

Catherine

Thanks for the chapter :) Poor Huang Shing. I figured it might be something like this.

Fuyge

I don’t think this was unnecessary. I don’t think I would react positively if I was told this. Like yeah I get why she did what she did, but it still feels pretty shitty being him in that moment.

StarBat

Hopefully they make up. This was so unnecessary. Entertaining but unnecessary.
