Huh, if Liu Jin was born on the other side of the dead plains, he would be DFS's most elite young master discipline.

Braydon

Love Soaring Feather's attitude! I hope we will eventually seem some sort of transformation or intelligence increase to the point he can properly communicate. Please spare him author, I can't take anymore novels that kill their day one spiritual beasts for the sake of revenge or power increase to the mc. Yet again, amazing work.

Derek Walker

I wonder if Jin has stalled his advancement so that he can easily enter the earth realm when he wants too. If he took the potion ahead of time the advancement shouldn’t be hard to adjust too. It would draw less attention to come in as someone only in the true realm and not “close” to climbing a realm. (Like why he would stop at 7th level instead of the 9th)

To make a counter-point, he calls himself old because he is OLD, even by the standards of Divine Realm cultivators. He's not so old as to have been around during the war, as is clear from his comments when meeting the snake god, but he is certainly one of the oldest cultivators on the continent. What we know about the three sects is that they are on the side of the continent that managed to escape most of the devastation, thus managing to keep most of their infrastructure, knowledge base and resources intact. And it's really not much of an unfair comparison. It wasn't his Inheritance or his control of Qi that allowed him to successfully make use of the technique, but his (very much incomplete) medical knowledge, which was taught to him by Old Jiang. Also, said disciple was in the Heaven realm, so whatever fine control Jin had was inferior to his.

Valerian

Oh certainly, but that is why I believe its a deal with the devil. Power in exchange for them being able to control/puppet you at will.

Derek Walker

Old Jiang calls himself that, so it’s not clear how old he is. Furthermore, it seems implied that the other side of the dead plains dates back to the end of the war (Mei asked “so there history is even more ancient then ours” or something like that.) So it’s possible he’s older than DFS, but it seems unlikely. As for Jin being much more skilled, that’s a little bit of an unfair comparison… not only does he have unmatched Qi control for his level because of an inheritance from a god, he was directly taught by someone well into the divine levels of cultivation, something that’s almost certainly not true of a typical DFS member.

burning_the_paper

No. Jiang is called OLD Jiang for a reason. The average Emperor Realm cultivator is several centuries old, so for a famous cultivator to be know by the moniker of "old" he must truly be ancient. What's more likely is that the DFS developer their technique by using knowledge they gleaned from Old Jiang - either via one of his disciples or through other mans. Also, a mere disciple of his is already running circles around DFS, actually doing a better job of using their techniques compared to a DFS one that has been practicing them for decades. That other faction from across the plains, the shadow puppeteers, had a story about a doctor who refused to share (something), which I took was referencing Old Jiang. The three sects on the other side of the plains clearly know who Old Jiang is because he likely lived on their side of the continent for a number of years, but I doubt he's originally from there.

Derek Walker

I don't think he was a disciple of DFS, but it seems likely he was from the other side of the Dead Plains. It could very well be in response to combating DFS that a doctor like Jiang grew so skilled.

ParadoxFox

It's probably only intended to be a backdoor for the DFS people themselves. They probably never imagined that Liu Jin could take advantage of that.

Belisaurius

So do we think that Jiang was formerly a DFS disciple? Also, are we seeing character development from Soaring Feather of all people?

JoBo12

I appreciate how Liu Jin analyses the Black Woods. Gives us a bit of insight how Liu Jin plans to get the SDE back on its feet after resolving the civil war.

burning_the_paper

He can't really do it without "raw material" created by the DFS - he still hasn't figured out how they are able to create the flesh they use for their creations. Then again, he seems to be much more skilled at using the creations than the DFS ever were. I don't think the DFS would really be confused by Liu Jin creating his own flesh golems, since, as we've seen, they look drastically different from those of the DFS (if we assume all DFS creations share a similar look). What is more likely is that he would frighten and/or enrage them due to his superior use of the technique.

Derek Walker

I mean he can probably do it now, but when he was considering how to learn the technique he put it off for soul training with Xue. Since not much time has passed since then, he may not have had time to completely master it yet.

JoBo12

I am still waiting for a big set piece battle where Liu Jin uses his own version of necromancy to create a huge number of undead minions. This could even lead to confusion in the enemy's leadership if they are allied to DFS, them questioning why somebody among their enemies seemingly belongs to the DFS.

David Wei

There's a very high chance that the main DFS member on this side of the plains is the angry man who got styled on in the plains. Considering how they view this side of the plains, sending him here to fix his mistake makes sense as a punishment. Lui Jin probably already had the biggest target possible on his back already. In fact, I'm going to guess that the DFS plans get unraveled by that disciple going full yandere revenge focus in the future.

burning_the_paper

To be fair, I don't think the DFS ever envisioned anyone on the other side of the Plains having the knowledge, precision and skill to hijack the flesh buds for his own purposes. That being said, the more Liu Jin undermines their cultivation techniques the bigger a target he keeps painting on himself.

Catherine

I wonder if it also allows them to communicate over distances. That might be how she found out from Duke Lai where Jin was heading

burning_the_paper

I'm interested to see what will happen with Soaring Feather. I don't imagine Liu Jin is going to leave his pet behind, so down the line we might see him reach the Emperor Realm and beyond, which is going to be a sight to see. As for combat ability, I imagine swooping down on an opponent at cultivator-speeds, meaning going hypersonic and beyond, claws out, is going to ruin anyone's day.

Valerian

Nice to see that Shi Qingxia is not particularly murderous towards her fellow Sect mates. Those flesh buds seem like a Faustian deal. Power is granted with them, but it creates backdoors in your defenses for people to hurt or control you.

JoBo12

Soaring Feather just needs some combat ability and he will be the cultivator equivalent of a fighter jet.

Amelgar

Lui Jin certainly has a talent for making friends

Sometime I wish I had discovered this amazing series later so that I wouldn’t have to wait a week for each chapter 😞
