Theory: Yi Jao and/or Huang Shing's family wanted to break off the engagement and Feng Zhi let them use his name as a face-saving way to get out of it.

Pete

Typo: “…he has had his men pouring over old scrolls…” Should be “poring.”

Guy

Insert joke about the *Divine* Realms of Cultivation

Guy Incognito

I can't tell if that was better or worse than I was expecting from Lady Ling considering she thinks Lu Mei is one of her husband's by-blows. On the one hand it doesn't seem like she'd gleefully murder Lu Mei like she would Feng Zhi given the chance. On the other hand holy shit lady chill.

Saaski

I wasn’t about to ask, but I was wondering…

David Giles

Why would it just be one person? Fire spreads and does not get weaker in the spreading.

burning_the_paper

I don't think anyone has mentioned that making the Eternal Flame whole would only let one person wield it - when the two brothers were arguing over what direction to take the clan even they acknowledge that they really have no idea what is going to happen, just that making the Eternal Flame whole could possibly change how it is granted to individuals. And yes, it's very likely that once an individual gains an Inheritance it stays with the bloodline for good - as an example Liu Jin's whole physiology has been changed by his inheritance, and there's no reason to suspect his descendants also won't benefit from those traits.

Silverias

There is no reason to assume the flame will only go to one person. The implication is that even full inheritances can be borne by multiple people (Hence keeping them in the bloodline)

Yoav

It might be that the full eternal flame chooses hao or zhou or mei or anyone else that has a connection to it already or it is possible that chooses none of them.

Yoav

I don't think that's possible because the inheritance will only chose one person to carry the full eternal flame and thats if it doesn't go to the divine person that was already using it in patriarch feng.

burning_the_paper

Yeah, and it seems that Huang isn't really pinning for the "love of his life" all that much either. Seems to me that his beef with Feng Zhi has more to do with wounded pride than a broken heart.

burning_the_paper

Yes and no. As Xiao Nan said all the way back, in this world strength is the only way to impose your will on others, and what you do with that strength really depends on the person. Sure, a lot of potent cultivators are either completely unhinged or drunk on power, but there's also many more that seem rather reasonable, if a tad odd. Old Jiang was likely a terrifying enemy to face, but he only ever showed kindness and grandfatherly love towards Liu Jin, and his father - despite all the atrocities committed - did what he did out of a sense of wounded justice and betrayal. Then you have the Patriarch of the Eternal Flame Clan - who is both callous and merciless, but also perfectly willing to allow a lowly disciple to shout at him, and to take time out of his schedule to try and impart wisdom on Liu Jin. Ultimately, even potent cultivators are merely human.

burning_the_paper

I like that others are beginning to acknowledge that Elder Xue is mothering Liu Jin. He really needs to at least experience a little bit what having a mom feels like, especially a strict one that has the will and power to curb some of his more suicidal tendencies. Also, I am curious if Lu Mei was also affected by whatever went on in the temple, same as Feng Zhi and his brother. I imagine she has, and that once Feng Gui rekindles the Eternal Flame and makes it whole she's going to be one of the few that will still retain access to it.

Mat Haz

I have no idea how that happened. More than once even, but yeah. Fixed. Changes should take a while to show up, though.

Nathan Thompson

Thanks for the chapter. Love this series!

MasterofNova

So what I’m getting out of this story is that everyone in the high realms of cultivation (Heaven+) are monsters and Xun Huwen is the only one honest about it.

Guy

Honestly a part of me wishes that Feng Zhi would get consideration for being the heir considering how he's been so far. I hope that we can see Feng Zhi grow too and not just be left behind.

Guy

Considering the comment that Feng Zhi made earlier about Huang Shing not accepting his kindness I think we'll find out that Huang's sweetheart(or her family) isn't so innocent.

Clyde Spero

Another fun chapter, my brain is already going off on tangents on how this is all going to connect back and work towards the next arc. Noticed one more error that hasn't been mentioned: "Elder Xue holds his gaze for several seconds." Elder Xue should be Lady Ling Thanks for another chapter.

Sam Oppy

There seems to be some confusion between Elder Xue and Lady Ling in the narrative

Catherine

Thanks for the chapter :) I’ve been wondering how this thread with Yi Jiao would play out

TheBrightOne

Damn. Liu Jin is really deep in denial about what he can and can't get away with, isn't he? Honestly, it's good he is like that though...

AZ

"“What do you know of the girl who used the Eternal Flame in the Dead Plains.” “On that matter, I cannot say I know more than Elder Xue,” Liu Jin replies. “If this one knows of it, surely, Elder Xue knows of it as well.” Elder **Xue** holds his gaze for several seconds." Probably an error?

Benjamin Shklyar

Small error. When Lady Ling asks about lu Mei. Liu Jin says that he doesn't know more the elder xue, then elder Xue frowns. It's supposed to be lady Ling. Small error, otherwise great chapter

TheBrightOne

"Liu Jin frowns. Though he does like to admit it, Huang Shing has a point. " Should be doesn't not does.
