Causal Chain

In all likelihood, the poison infected his entire soul, and was slow acting.

I think it does, to a lesser extent, translate into a very fast cultivation speed. Li Jin himself just chooses to move at a more sedate pace so that he analyzes everything. It's noted to be his fighting style - clinical and analytical. IIRC - during the last arc, he chose to remove the blocks that he placed to prevent him from ascending to the next rank because he believed he learned all he could of his current cultivation level.

Gavriel

I don't understand how someone with as much control over his internals as Old Jiang had, could have died to poison?! Couldn't he sever the part of his soul infected by the poison?

Gavriel

I don't understand how Liu Jins extremely fine control of Qi, and extremely high knowledge of the body, ability to make pills, etc: doesn't translate into absurd cultivation speed?! Why can't he just use his ability to control qi to compress it, break any blockages, create areas of low density qi in order to simulate a qi void (and nature abhors a vacuum), etc?! Also: why hasn't he cultivated his inheritance lightning?!

Mat Haz

The idea was that he's putting more power into the other two, but I might change it if it's not clear enough.

Not until I googled the name. I am always surprised by what I find when I do that.

Amazing as always. But I really do need more chapters. This novel is way too addicting. Would we get an extra chapter per week if you hit your goal? 👀 Or would we need to double it or something? 🤔

First [raging flame burst] is not bolded while the others are.

Silly Lui Jin the dao of bureaucracy obviously exists. The dao of bureaucracy is one of the strongest daos in the world. But it requires a bureaucrat to properly cultivate, which most cultivator's are not. Also it's very weak early. But if you master it, you can control empires.

When I was reading, “Why should today be any different from tomorrow?” seems like it should be “Why should today be any different from yesterday?”... Right?

Fan BingBing is a famous Chinese actress lol. Were you not aware?

In this chapter, we get a taste of Liu Jin’s sharp wit and I don’t mean his spear, though it is probably just as pointed, as the members of the Department of External Relations found out today. Our boi is truly Old Jiang’s disciple. We do not get a resolution to last week’s pseudo-cliffhanger. I suspect that would be the end of it and it would *totally* not come back in the near future. Our boi also might be on to something with the Dao of Bureaucracy, considering that the Chinese afterlife is supposed to be a giant celestial one. Still, this reminds me of the conversation with Xiao Nan about how the people good with fighting wish they can stick to fighting but they get saddled with responsibility for non-fighting things instead. He was totally right about that and I miss him. Speaking of fighting, I know Liu Jin has been complaining about not being able to cultivate, and considering the challenges, it might be high time for him to do so. Sure, three spirit realm cultivators in a day might be peanuts for him now but I feel like Elder Fa might step up his game should these guys continue to be unsuccessful. In the meantime though, our boi has the luxury of thinking like a winner by refraining from what he sees as cruelty. As a reply by way of question though, is it him being cruel by doing what he needs to do to survive given his circumstances or is it the Elder who put both him and the other disciple in that position? Making the distinction might not be as helpful for our boi Liu Jin since it is still him inflicting grievous bodily injury either way, but when it comes to things like this, I feel like the distinction has to be made. Lastly, Fan Bingbing is a really cute name. She’s your friend who likes to play with Elder Fa’s disciples right before Qing Jin chews them up. If we really are going to lose Bei Hong and Huang Shing from the gang, at least we’re getting new people, which is not idea but still neat. Also, her character description is pretty unique, which is a nice departure from like the five body types of everyday xianxia: timeless androgyne protagonist, jade beauty, meathead, old hag and fatty. Can’t wait for things to (probably) come to a head next week.
