Astra - June Update: Backgrounds!
🕑 Added 2021-06-28 13:00:21 +0000 UTCHello Patrons,
Hope everyone had a great weekend!! Todays update will be regarding backgrounds and we have a good amount of them to share. ;^)
As from our last update, it was decided that we would be working with both artists for backgrounds and playing into each of their strengths. Having two artists will also help in terms of having a much greater variety of backgrounds of course and our plan is not to recycle any BG's from previous games... except maybe the hotsprings because that is now just a inside Pixelverse meme!
Anyways, feel free to check out some of the new BG's here below! It's a mix platter of times/colors since we are still finishing up their alternatives however it should give a good idea of what they look like:
AETOS BRIDGE
SPACE STATION (Artist 1)
SPACE STATION (Artist 2)
LOUNGE
NATIONAL PARK
One note is that sci-fi BG's definitely requires more notes than modern day and fantasy. I think modern day is the easiest since there is so much 'real' reference available and fantasy is a popular genre especially for anime / manga. There is of course the space opera style for anime like the Gundam series, though that's usually some ship BG's with the locations being kinda ACE Academy style sci-fi.
I think with the group traveling around, we'll be seeing a much greater variety of locations and styles so that will especially help with places feeling unique and fresh. We're tackling some of the more sci-fi heavy BG's in the beginning so we can set a tone for our world and then depending on mission specific places, there could be some space western (Cowboy Bepop / Trigun) thrown in the mix. I'm excited to see where things go as we continue our storyboarding!!
As always, please feel free to share your thoughts below. Thank you for your continued support. <3

I like the more muted tones of Artist 2 for a space station . Something about it seems more realistic

I think I've watched Firefly a few too many times, because I keep thinking the interior of the Aetos needs to be grimed up more. 😂🤣😂🤣 Loving the backgrounds so far though.

I am very much a fan of the more realistic lighting details. It actually looks like you're seeing polished, well kept metals and plastics. Interesting place to park a station though, that is a very high orbit

Curious comparison. Artist 1 has the typical BG that I have come to expect out of a Pixel Fade title: cooler colors but with brighter tones. However Artist 2 brings a unique style: warmer colors with darker tones but with more focus on lighting, reflections and refractions. I like both styles. I am looking forward to seeing how this will bring out the story.
