The Dave

Not necessarily. He just wanted to see if trainer bias impacted Eevee's decision and future. What would've happened if Eevee jad indeed shown interest in another option... who knows.

TempestK

I will admit that this is certainly an interesting insight into what Bugsy was talking about regarding a trainer's type specialty affecting their personality.

It seemed to me like Vichai was hoping to get Eevee to evolve into a different evo than Jolteon for some reason. I'm glad Grady decided not to go with him he gives off bad vibes. I'm rooting for him joining with Ran and Josie, that seems like a mean elemental trio to mess with XDD

I do get what the other commenter was saying. Unlike an obvious future character (eg. Whitney) or character we can be reasonably certain will continue to feature in the story (eg. Ran's dad), Grady has been the story such a short time that it's hard to say whether he'll be a one off. (Though him getting an interlude at all kinda suggests he'll be coming back.) Personally, though, I enjoyed it. It's not the most "plot relevant" interlude, but I thought Vichai was pretty interesting. And since I'm assuming Grady is coming back, getting a glimpse at what's going on with him can be good.

The Dave

Absolutely, though it did at least come from a place of caring for the pokémon's wishes. He may be assisting Elm, but he's also twelve, so biases and some unreliability are to be expected I figure.

TempestK

Eesh, Vichai certainly had his own opinions on how much Grady had influenced Eevee's opinions didn't he? Which means that he was working under a confirmation bias and his findings are going to be inherently flawed.

Vichai is so creepy

The Dave

This... will need further thought. Cool idea, expect me to come back to this. Thanks for the notes!

DiscoT

Maybe a Whitney interlude would've been cool to have instead, if you went from the angle that she generally keeps track of up and coming trainers and ofc her own sponsees like Grady. It would segway into maybe a deeper 3rd person perspective on Grady as a character without going too all in. Just a spontaneous thought!

The Dave

Josie I'm holding off on giving an interlude just yet deliberately. She'll definitely be getting one in the not too distant future, but it'll be another handful chapters first as we'll be returning to Ran for a while first. Putting her interlude here would've felt bad later on, when there's some stuff upcoming that I figure people will definitely want her take on. Sorry to disappoint though, I figured giving some insight into Grady now that he re-enters the narrative would add some depth to the upcoming interactions, but I do see your point that you don't really have a reason to care about him yet. From my POV, having written a number of extra chapters where he's more present in the narrative, I may have lost sight of that. Hopefully the next updates will be more to your liking once more and retroactively somewhat justify this interlude. Thanks for the feedback, it is definitely something to consider going forward, at the very least when considering when and where to go with the narrative and alternate POVs as I need to keep closer track of how invested I am in characters and arcs compared to my readers.

DiscoT

Tbh it was uninteresting. If there was to be an interlude i would have expected one from Josie. At the moment there's not really a reason to care about Grady and his loneliness.

The Dave

You are entirely correct, this is what I get for midnight-writing. It's been fixed now. Thanks for the help!

MaliMi

Poor kid. Btw in the last paragraph, there should probably be Violet city instead of Azalea town.

The Dave

A look at what Grady's been up to in the period leading up to running into Ran in Goldenrod. Poor lad's a bit too excitable and loud for a lot of people, but it's really just a matter of finding his people. Vichai is one of Elm's sponsored trainers, because those are also of course around. Unfortunately, he's not a match for Grady's personality at all, so though they can respect each other, traveling together wouldn't be workable long term. Disclaimer: This update hasn't been beta'ed yet as I got quite stuck on it for a good while, so there may still be large changes before it's 'official' release in a few weeks. If that happens, I'll be sure to let you all know so you can come have a look at what's different. This makes your feedback extra valuable for this chapter, as this update was only finished about 12 hours ago, so I haven't given it the thorough reading that my early access pieces usually get. As always, a huge thank you for your support, it means the world to me.
