I know it's not a riverwalk but my city of Tacoma Washington on the site of what used to be a smelter and refining plant built a smaller example of walkable urbanism called Point Ruston. It's on the waterfront of Puget Sound and has a movie theater, shops and restaurants under multi-story condos. It's surprisingly very successful and very popular amongst the locals and tourists. It may be worth checking out and looking into.

They were talking about expanding Chicago’s river walk all the way to Chinatown. I don’t know where they are in the plans for that but, hopefully it happens soon.
