Hi Everyone,
This week, the Community Challenge is "Write something sad"
What is a Community Challenge?
It's a weekly reminder that music is meant to be created, played, explored, and tinkered with. Learning music isn't just a brain thing. It isn't just about memorization. It's about learning to express yourself. It's about learning how to make your guitar sing - becoming one with your instrument through exploration and creativity.
So many people get caught up in the knowledge aspect of music. Learning theory, learning scales, learning songs, knowing the lore - these are all good things, but they can never replace the ability to express yourself through writing.
Community Challenges are NOT about perfectionism, or writing a masterpiece. They are more about writing SOMETHING. The thing I wrote for this one is just a chord progression, bass line, and melody idea. No real lyrics. I didn't even sing very well. Thats not the point.
Community Challenges aren't about accomplishing something, they are about working out your creative muscles and getting used to playing field. The more of these Challenges you do, the more comfortable you'll get with being creative. Even if you never write a whole song, these challenges will help you prepare for jam sessions, playing music with others, writing more interesting parts to a song, or even just learning something new.
Post your blob of music to the Community Forum. I listen to every single submission!
