I assume they already do as well, however to have a major supercomputing partner come out and say they will work together on the problem, and they have future announcements over the next few months on it, makes me wonder if Intel isn't doing it on a large scale?

Seems interesting but would think Intel have tried this already for themselves, perhaps the students will simulate others designs and come up with a optimal approach to each problem.
