TBIs suck so badly! One of my former teachers had a terrible fall and was on cognitive rest for a terrible amount of time. He's a band director and a horn player, so the "no listening to music" part was pretty awful for him. Be sure to share with your doctors who do behavioral health meds that you've had one. I'm a LPC so I couldn't tell you which med it was (and I don't remember the name anyway because they're maddeningly untethered from what they do) but I remember a client had a TBI that wasn't detected and disclosed, and whatever they prescribed him was contraindicated, badly. Fun fact from doing mental health agency intakes, a LOT of people have been concussed and don't know it unless you ask them specific questions about how they felt after they hit their head, myself included. (Turns out getting hit by a 6 foot steel pole with a pretty flag attached to it right behind your ear will do Bad Things. Don't let people tell you marching band isn't ever dangerous. lol)

Thank you for such a lucid write-up; I know it takes genuine courage to be this brutally honest about one’s mental health. My wife is a PCP who had a run-in with a HS coach who made a player keep playing after a concussion only for her to get a second one later the same game with devastating consequences.
