Lots of good questions and fun to think about! Probably have no definitive answers though -- I've found when I get into the weeds of the worldbuilding stuff like that, it distracts me from finishing the story and the situations I'm interested in writing about.

What happens, if not all of the bits are returned before they are restored? What happens, if not all of the bits are returned and they are turned into other bits? What happens, if not all of the bits are returned and another cartridge is used? What happens... if they are not fully inside the machine when it is used? What happens, if two people are in it when it is used?
