It seems clear to me that Musk is depending on a "sunk cost" situation. NASA has committed to Space-X and has a schedule (which it definitely won't make) and now Musk can go back to NASA and say "Gee, whiz. Looks like this is going to cost a bit more, but we're almost there" and NASA will (at least in Musk's head) be forced to keep endlessly funding his Boca Chica fireworks factory. My guess is that the astronauts waiting to go to the moon will be old enough to retire and Space-X STILL won't be ready (but it will be "next year" for sure!") Someone needs to take a good, close look at Lueders' finances. I suspect a truckload of untraceable cash was exchanged for her "independent" decision to award the contract to Space-X. The fact that the GAO, despite acknowledging that her decision was in violation of required due diligence, still denied Blue Origin's protest is also suspect (but sadly not that surprising). Also, if Musk thinks throwing middle-school playground shade at Jeff Bezos is a smart move well, let's just say that it proves that Musk is nothing more than a snake-oil salesman, leveraging Daddy's money and his own gullible investors. He's not particularly bright and a bully.
