FIRST LOOK at Amir's Monster Form đ„đ„đ„
🕑 Added 2022-06-18 17:46:03 +0000 UTCIts FINALLY time to start teasing Amir's succubus form! Now, as background context, I did do a short write up a few months back as to why Amir calls himself a succubus and not an incubus. If you're curious about the distinction, you can read my thoughts here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/63334741
BUT ANYWAY. Atlas and I discussed Amir's monster look at length for a LONG time and had vague concepts down. In late May, we were finally able to have a detailed conversation about the really rough look we both wanted. While there's lots of succubi on the internet, I really want TCM monsters to maintain their appeal to the monsterfucker crowd... and by that I want them to be Very inhuman in appearance.
For readability, Atlas suggests facial splitting and opening up in portions, like a flower. We both love the idea of multiple eyes on Amir's monster form and likening his transformation to something beautiful- a flower blooming, for instance- but making it horrifying was right up his alley. We also made links to bugs/beetles (as they appear in most of Amir's designs) to him shedding skin or having a segmented body, multiple extra limbs, hard surfaces and less flesh...
And finally here I think we nailed one of the core design aspects we both wanted for him. Again, for readability, I suggest an exposed ribcage shape with an inner core and then Atlas roughed over a base shape on his normal body, where his "ribcage" would be able to open up and consume souls fully.
Another link here is that legends of incubi and succubi are both predated by Egyptian legends of the Qarinah which take inspiration from even further back. Qarinah are very similar to our ideas of most nighttime sex demons thought they're typically described as more ghostly in appearance. While Amir is mixed Middle Eastern by birth, he pulls a little inspiration from his Egyptian side and I wanted to pull the ghostliness into his succubus look too as another visual link to his background.
Armed with all of this, Atlas went to work experimenting with shape language.
Okay, so... all the elements are starting to come together in this design at this point, next week I can show you how Atlas combined these elements into a more cohesive version.
Thanks!
Sam
