The original version of this episode included a section about for-profit insurance companies. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, the main subject’s insurance provider, is not-for-profit. We’ve removed the section to avoid confusion.

Hey Kadi, I'm so sorry this happened to you. (This is Adrianne.) Your birth story sounds awful and then the insurance hellscape on top of it. Lots of love your way <3 and to your little one too.

Thank you so much for investing your time and energy into this story. Three minutes into this I started sobbing; this exact situation happened to me two years ago (at the very beginning of Covid/lockdown) when I had my son. I had an emergency C-section, I lost over 1/2 the blood in my body, my little guy was in the NICU for 6 days and I was in trams for 2 days. I worked for a large media company at the time with what I considered great insurance (under MY name with BCBS), and dealt with the BS for months after the fact with them when my insurance had “a lapse” for two weeks - in the middle of the month. I haven’t seen this TT or heard of this being a thing, and I’m SO fing angry but now feel so less alone. Thank you, great work as always, love y’all ❤️

I know you mentioned a sketchy source ruined it, but I'm surprised you didn't decide to run this newly verified version of the episode in the main feed?
