Chapter 138 - Bloody Night Fire
A few kilometers away, in one of the Jiménez cartel's safe houses, the base guards were slightly distracted.
Their attention was diverted by the loud explosion sounds coming from a specific direction.
The direction where the base of one of the dogs that dared to bite the hand of their high command was located.
Each and every one of them knew what was happening there, but they still held onto a small thread of hope.
If Andrés Reyes could win this battle, then they could all survive and not be treated as bargaining chips at a negotiation table. That’s right—hitmen were well aware that they were nothing but trash, and their only priority should always be looking out for their own safety.
Andrés Reyes had put on quite a show. He had won over the hearts of the hitmen who followed him, and not one of them had doubted him for a single moment.
As distracted as they were, the guards did not notice the dark shadow lurking between the third floor and the rooftop.
Not until...
Bang!
A shot rang out, and the man operating the machine gun in the outpost had his head blown off.
His headless body fell to the ground from the ten-meter-high tower.
“We’re under attack!” shouted the patrolling guard.
Dante appeared, followed by several elite soldiers behind him, and fired two more shots, eliminating the machine gunner who was at the controls.
Dante’s marksmanship allowed him to fire continuously at his targets without any trouble.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
After Dante had taken out the three biggest threats, the guards below began to react to what was happening and opened fire on him.
Dante responded with a rain of bullets.
Then, he made a lateral roll, abandoned his shooting position, and raised his weapon.
Firing dozens of bullets per minute, he unleashed as many rounds as possible at the guards below, instantly killing about five of them.
The patrol leader shouted loudly: “Call Andrés! Tell him the safe house is under attack!”
But at that very moment, a rocket soared toward him, leaving a trail of white smoke behind. It had been fired from the top of the building. The patrol leader instantly lost all hope.
Seeing his imminent death descending upon him, he couldn't help but close his eyes.
Boom!
A rocket explosion was always bigger than a grenade explosion, regardless of power or terrain.
However, the wide area worked in Dante’s favor—he didn’t even have to aim perfectly, just estimate the range of the shot.
A couple of guards hiding behind the local shops were blown to pieces.
Dante lowered the rocket launcher from his shoulder and quickly reloaded it, aiming at the steel door at the top of the building.
Boom!
The powerful explosion shattered everything, including the people who were desperately trying to keep that door closed.
“Finish them all off. Don’t forget to leave a clear message for the Jiménez—they’re next.” Dante was injured, but none of that mattered to him.
“Sir, you need treatment.”
Dante looked at the bullet wound on his shoulder and said, “We’ll deal with that later. I want to call William.”
Unknown Location, Near What Appeared to Be an Old Mansion
“Brother, that man is the devil himself. Hiring him to kill our enemies could backfire on us.”
Diego ignored all of his sister’s words. He truly wanted to take down the Felipe Lobos cartel, which was why he had hired a man who would certainly do the job for him.
He had contacted the man many called the devil.
A man so dangerous that even Alicia Jiménez had been very hesitant to reach out to him. But it seemed her brother had beaten her to it.
“Boss, he’s here.”
Just when Alicia thought she had instilled fear in her brother, those words heightened her alertness.
“You’re insane!”
“Maybe…”
“You just invited death into our lives. What could we possibly do if Sugar decides to kill us?”
“Antón Chigurh. Let’s just call him Chigurh. Leave us alone.” When Diego heard the approaching footsteps, he made his sister leave the room and waited.
Then, after a few more seconds, a man appeared—so plain, with an unremarkable haircut. He looked at the man sitting before him, then stepped inside without saying a single word.
According to what had been investigated, Chigurh was one of the most unstoppable killing machines still on record and available for hire.
But first, one had to get to know him.
Antón Chigurh, known by the nickname Sugar, maintained a strict personal code, believing that his victims were ultimately responsible for the consequences of their decisions, justifying his actions as the fulfillment of fate’s will.
Diego planned to give him the mission of killing Dante, about whom he only had information as Dan, the leader of SAMCRO.
“Please, have a seat.”
“I suppose you studied me enough to have the guts to hire my services… The last person who wanted someone assassinated ended up suffocating in his own shame after being abandoned by the daughters he, by the way, abused.”
After saying this, Chigurh looked at Diego and asked: “Tell me, what’s the difference between killing you or the man you want me to eliminate?”
“His name is Dan. To me and my workers, we consider him the butcher. He has been attacking churches, schools, and the humble workplaces of Mexican citizens.” Diego presented several photographs of numerous hitmen who had been dismembered.
Chigurh picked up one of the photographs. Despite how graphic it was, he showed no emotion and asked: “What makes you think I’d start a hunt for someone even you barely know?”
“You are the last hitman I can turn to for help. Besides, I also want you to kill Felipe Lobos, a reckless drug lord who has started a war against my peaceful organization.”
Chigurh remained silent. There wasn’t much to think about, so he said, “Fine, I’ll take care of it. But first, flip a coin.”
“Yes. If it lands on heads, I’ll do it. If not, then we’ll let silence have the last word.” Chigurh looked at Diego, waiting for him to flip the coin.
Taking a deep breath, Diego picked up the coin and, without hesitation, flipped it.
As a hitman devoid of compassion for human beings or a psychopathic killer, Chigurh was the last man you’d ever want hunting you down.
A few seconds later, as the coin landed and settled, it showed heads.
“Well, I’ll start immediately.” Chigurh stood up and left the room, thinking about how he would judge Dante—someone he, by the way, did not know.
