Chapter 82 - A Fight
"You’ve made a grave mistake, Mr. Dan."
Jack stood in front of Dante, signaling that even in these circumstances, he cared about Dante's safety. However, what Jack didn’t know was that these men weren’t here to kill him or his family—they were here to take the life of his sister’s fiancé.
From behind, Dante assessed the people who had entered the room after those uninvolved had fled. In mere seconds, he deduced these individuals were dangerous.
"What are you looking for?"
"The life of the man beside you, whom we believe goes by the name Dan," said a muscular man, glaring defiantly at Jack, who seemed unwilling to comply with their demands.
"I figured when you sent Continental assassins after me, it was merely an investigation—to ensure I was the right target," Dante said calmly. Fear wasn’t an emotion he was familiar with.
"Why are these people after you?" Jack asked without taking his eyes off the suited men in front of them.
"You don’t know? Let me explain. The man next to you is a mobster your sister turned to in order to expand her business into New York, a city overrun with gangs. Controlling a part of that city is incredibly risky, but he succeeded in record time. Not only that, but he struck a deal with the Russian mafia to avoid misunderstandings between them."
Jack’s expression darkened further as he realized his connection to Dante was becoming increasingly dubious.
"The problem arose when the Sons of Anarchy began distributing cocaine outside New York, making powerful enemies who led us to him."
"Now that he’s in London, where his strength isn’t as established, it’s the perfect opportunity for various forces to end the life of the leader of the Sons of Anarchy."
In the end, they managed to trace his connection to Susie, who had appeared at a meeting with Felipe Lobos.
What a shame…
"Don’t make the same mistake as the fool who tried to take my life in New York," Dante warned, raising an eyebrow.
"We are not gangsters," said the burly man, adjusting his glasses.
At that moment, a voice from the back called out, "Why not die honorably instead of wasting so much blood?"
Jack turned to look at the man who seemed to be the leader of the group.
"And who are you supposed to be?"
"They call me Caine, and you are my last job before I retire," Caine said, sizing Dante up and muttering, "For someone supposedly important and a major obstacle to those doing business with the High Order, you don’t seem very dangerous."
"Do you have family?"
Caine shook his head. "Why do you ask?"
"Because if any of you had family, I’d personally take their lives and make your loved ones beg to die first," Dante said coldly. His cruel words even unsettled Jack, who was ready to kill or die.
Caine nodded and replied, "Unfortunately, I don’t. But if I did, you couldn’t do anything about it. Listen, let’s not end this in blood."
"Then get out of here!"
"No one breaks a contract, and besides, this is my last job before retirement," Caine said, irritated.
"A dog will always remain a dog. You’re no different, professional killer," Dante remarked with a faint, defiant smile.
"Enough!" yelled the man sent by Henry. "No matter what you do, you’ll die tonight."
By this time, Dante had moved closer, his gaze sweeping over the enemies surrounding him. He murmured, "At least I imagined an outcome."
Everyone stared at Dante, whose suit drew attention—it made him look ready for a confrontation, which made the group nervous.
"In the name of those who gave you life, may the good men who will die today rest in peace," Dante declared, stepping ahead of Jack and facing Caine.
Suddenly, the lights went out, and numerous people armed with assault rifles appeared, aiming at the more than ten GEO-suited men threatening the hotel.
"Don’t do this—everyone will die…"
Dante smiled, looked at Caine, and said, "Whoever dies today loses…"
Jack glanced at Dante but said nothing, watching as Caine walked away before shouting, "Fire!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Gunfire erupted, and Dante, knowing the inevitable was upon them, grabbed a pistol in his left hand and a knife in his right.
"Kill them all!" Caine roared, furious that his peaceful retirement would now be drenched in blood.
Dante swiftly slid across the floor and, in the blink of an eye, appeared in front of a man he had targeted earlier.
"Ahhhh!"
With lightning speed, Dante stabbed the man’s heart. The burly man’s lips trembled for a moment, but without a word, he died in anger.
Dante was ruthless. Especially now that his priorities were crystal clear.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Steven’s men fought primitively with knives and swords against the firearm-wielding enemies, yet the imbalance wasn’t overwhelming.
After taking out the first man, Dante dashed toward another, clearing a path for Jack, who wasn’t moving quickly.
After stabbing another man several times, Dante rolled to the side and began running again, observing the dozen individuals firing at each other simultaneously.
Pistol bullets tore through the bodies of those without specialized suits, quickly tipping the balance.
Boom!
Dante rolled toward the group in gray suits and tossed a stun grenade.
The explosion disoriented many, and Dante seized the moment to shoot everyone nearby.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Although he dodged most bullets, a few hit his suit, causing painful impacts that slowed him for a moment.
Given the circumstances, he knew close combat was his only viable option against these armored men.
But Dante felt like a predator hunting its prey.
His reflexes were sharper, and his speed had increased.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Ahhhh!"
After finishing off another man in a gray suit, both sides seemed to pause for a moment, giving Dante a chance to clean the blood off his knife while eyeing the five remaining men.
Suddenly, a group of heavily armored men stormed in, aiming their assault rifles at everyone inside. Jack ordered a retreat.
"You’re coming with me."
Dante nodded, realizing he had gotten more involved than he anticipated. Retreating seemed like a good idea.
"Where are the high-caliber weapons? We can’t handle those armored enemies without them," Dante asked as he reloaded his pistol.
Jack glanced at Dante’s suit, which had been pristine but was now soaked in blood. "We don’t use high-caliber weapons. We stick to our principles of productivity."
"Well, that’s going to make things much harder…" Dante muttered, watching as the Order soldiers began firing at everyone.
