Chapter 28: Horse
Dante walked down the stairs and found his father sitting in the living room.
"Did you have a good night?" John asked as he drank his coffee.
"It was nice, with some surprises, but overall it was fine." Dante didn’t remember causing a scene last night, unless the noises were too loud.
"And how are you feeling?"
"My head hurts."
"I can imagine."
Dante walked toward the kitchen to pour himself a cup of coffee, and after returning to his father, he said, "We should build a bigger mansion."
John, confused, asked, "Are you planning to have many children?"
"Probably. Who can be sure about that? The way things are going, I’ll be the one to fill you with grandchildren who will actually call you grandpa." Dante believed that family was the most important thing, even though his family didn’t share the same view.
It was a shame; his mother's death had been devastating for everyone. Dante assumed she was the link that kept the family together; beyond that, there wasn’t much else keeping them united.
His brother had married a girl of Indian descent, who, by the way, hated their family and were, for now, their biggest potential enemies.
John, looking at Dante, could feel that his spirit and love for the family were the strongest of all. He thought it might be because Dante was the youngest.
"Do you want many grandchildren, father?" Dante looked at his dad, waiting for an answer.
"You woke up quite playful today..." John didn’t know how to respond. He even thought that his son might be high, asking such specific questions.
"I just want to know what you think."
"Forget it. Come with me instead; I’ll show you something." John said as he put down his coffee cup and walked toward the door.
Dante followed him to the stables, but even before reaching them, a horse in the arena caught his attention.
"Do you know what horse this is?" John asked as he entered the arena and stroked the mane of the black horse.
"It's a mane for sure." Max replied, his gaze fixed on the horse.
The mane and tail are very thick and abundant; sometimes both can be braided, slightly wavy. This horse has a fairly long head with small ears that are always upright and elegant, features of its great docility and excellent temperament.
As for their character, they are very calm and have a strong presence, making them perfect for competitions.
The Friesian horse is often seen in equestrian exhibitions, and the calèche of a Friesian horse distinguishes tradition and a magnificent reputation as a learning horse in the higher riding schools.
"Are you planning to put it in competitions?" Dante asked as he approached the horse, stroking it more closely.
John shook his head and said, "That’s not my problem, you decide, since it’s your horse."
This black horse, too beautiful just to be ridden, was the gift John had prepared for his son.
Dante was excited. He hadn’t thought his father would give him such a horse so soon. Since he won the bet, he had expected this horse would never arrive.
But now that he had this horse, Dante, of course, wanted to ride it and asked, "Shall we ride?"
"Another day, son. I have to resolve some important matters with those who want to take our lands." John said and then murmured, "But you can invite her, I’m sure she’ll be delighted."
Dante turned his gaze and saw Susie in the distance, holding the coffee cup he had left on the table. "That woman will be my wife."
John laughed at this and asked, "Does she even know?"
"I told her this morning, I don’t have a clear answer yet."
"Do you know who her mothers are?" John, seeing that his son wasn’t joking, started asking important questions.
Dante slightly shook his head and said, "That doesn’t really matter to me, I want her, not her family."
"It could be something you can’t control."
"No, I have good perception when it comes to women." Dante said, starting to make turns with his horse in the arena.
John, thoughtful, slightly shook his head and said, "That’s your decision, son."
