Chapter 103: Arrogance
Jun had his own arrogance, a pride born from his undefeated streak since being reborn in this world!
Chen had sat on the throne as the number one assassin in this world for decades, and he too carried an unyielding arrogance, one that refused to be insulted by someone as young as Jun!
The moment the two met, they were diametrically opposed; it was as if a strange sensation gripped their necks the moment they laid eyes on each other!
It was as if their positions were being greatly threatened by each other.
Inside Jun's body, a kind of blood that had not flowed for a long time now surged through his veins. His eyes grew brighter, and his intent to kill intensified. Even his bones emanated a savage aura, and the desire for battle began to awaken his spirit.
That frenzy he hadn’t felt in a long time—after all, there weren’t many who could truly excite him, and that's why he came to this place, hoping to encounter that Martial God.
“Do you dare to fight?” Chen’s eyes shone with intense emotion, and he asked coldly. “It’s time to determine if I am the true king of assassins between us!”
A shocking battle intent suddenly erupted from this old king of assassins.
At that moment, it wasn’t the killing intent that exploded from his body!
But the intent to fight!
To fight! To fight for glory!
“I thought it was only me who sought to fight strong opponents, but I suppose that’s a trait every strong man feels when walking a bloody path alone.” Jun’s back straightened like a fully drawn bow suddenly released. A fierce gleam shone in his eyes, brimming with unshakable confidence. “And the reason for my desire to fight surpasses the importance of this entire world, for if I don’t, I’ll feel empty!”
“Very well. I always speak with my strength. Although there are few who have ever defeated me, it’s not uncommon for me to lose. However, when it comes to killing intent and aura, there’s no one who has ever surpassed me.”
Chen laughed heartily and continued, “You’re the first! Even if you die in our clash, you can rest easy knowing you died at my hands.”
“Unfortunately, the loser of this battle won’t be me! In this world, you’re the first person I’ve allowed a fair duel! I trust you’ll also be the first!” Jun said calmly as he raised his guard.
‘Give you the chance for a fair battle?’ Chen was about to sneer at this remark when he realized he couldn’t laugh at all. That was because he understood that his opponent wasn’t joking! In fact, from this statement, he could feel an invisible, genuine pressure!
Fighting fairly, face-to-face like soldiers?
What kind of words were those?
What kind of person would speak such words?
And what kind of person had never fought fairly in his life? An assassin! Only the highest-ranking assassin would live by that code!
Only a professional killer who always walked in the shadows, delivering fatal blows to his targets, would be like that!
This was also the reason why, when two proud, top-level assassin kings met with their blades drawn, they wanted to use schemes and ambushes to win the battle with the least amount of wounds!
Because this fight completely overshadowed the simple notion of seeking each other’s death. This was a fight for glory, for the honor of being the strongest!
At that moment, Jun was speaking the absolute truth. He had never faced his enemies in a fair fight at any point, despite his strengths! With his vast array of methods, he could easily leap through threats and kill his opponents before they even realized it. As for so-called fair fights, in Jun’s eyes, that was simply an extremely foolish way to fight!
A battle, in its purest form, was nothing but a struggle between life and death! The losers were eliminated, while the winners kept on living. What use was fairness in such a thing? No matter the method used, as long as one killed their opponent, they won! Only if one survived could they qualify to speak of fairness to others!
But against Chen today, the meaning of this battle made Jun make an exception and utter the words, “a fair fight.”
An upright, face-to-face battle!
Using only his skills, representing the entire Haiyue clan!
I will claim my crown as the king of assassins right here!
“Follow me! Since we’re having a fair fight, we naturally need to find an appropriate place.”
Jun’s body seemed to blur, and in an instant, he slid through the snow. His figure shot through the swirling snow like lightning, his black cloak billowing, flashing against the white snow.
Chen laughed heartily as a trace of admiration briefly flashed in his eyes. After that, he once again became the cold assassin who would kill anyone in this place. His body lifted lightly, and without appearing to move his single leg, he sped toward Jun.
“Trevor, is there something wrong with our boss?” Shen asked with concern as he lay on his back, this time on Vera’s. His brows furrowed deeply, and his face was steeped in thought. “Why did Jun become someone else the moment he saw the king of assassins?”
“Unlike you, we were trained to kill. As one of the oldest clans in the world, we rarely encounter obstacles when we leave the village. The same goes for Jun, who has long been bored. But now that he’s met a formidable opponent, his killer instinct is urging him to fight,” Trevor said, without a hint of worry.
“Then, this is his desired fight, but isn’t it a bit dangerous? Let’s go and take a look,” Shen insisted, knowing he could do little on the battlefield against enemies of that level. The king of assassins' fame was well known—at least in recent days, it’s all anyone had been talking about. How could it be a light matter?
“Of course, we’ll naturally go watch Jun. But in this fight, I believe Jun definitely won’t want anyone’s help. At least I can sense that.” Vera casually recalled.
"I can also feel that this fight holds great importance to him, as if this is something he wants to achieve on his own." Trevor frowned deeply and sighed, nursing a headache.
"Don’t worry, Jun is definitely not weak at all!" Vera sighed lightly, and his bulky frame moved forward at a fast pace. Even though he was carrying a person on his back, he seemed as light as a feather, floating along with the wind. Behind him, a gentle breeze blew away all traces of their steps, completely erasing any sign that someone had stood there just moments ago.
Even when the twins’ figures vanished into the snowstorm, the small spiral of wind behind them continued blowing; though the wind was weak, it blew without pause before finally breaking apart in the air, completely erasing all the killing intent and battle tension left behind by the two great assassins who were about to fight.
Jun took the lead, his body vanishing and reappearing like a ghost. Dark auras flickered all over his body, and his speed was like lightning; however, his steps were steady yet as soft as flowing water in a calm river. His feet didn’t seem to touch the ground at all. He lightly brushed against tree branches or the small grass on the ground as he launched forward again. His speed was extremely fast, and his movements were unpredictable.
Chen followed closely behind. Despite the seven-meter gap Jun initially opened, he couldn’t close the distance, not even by an inch. But neither could Jun widen it!
Chen’s movement technique was actually quite similar to Kyou Kai’s art of movement. As he moved at high speeds, his body also vanished and materialized like an ethereal ghost, chasing the illusory figure in front.
Although Chen hadn’t yet closed the distance with Jun, the fighting intent in his eyes grew more and more intense!
At that moment, the two assassin kings had already begun their contest: a competition of movement skills and techniques!
Only by having such a high level of speed and agility, along with evasive movements, could one kill their targets unexpectedly with relative ease!
Only with a fast enough speed could one kill before their targets reacted and then escape the scene!
As Chen followed closely behind Jun, he finally understood why Jun had become someone so easy to challenge. But even though he knew why, it was impossible for him to back out of this fight! Their movement techniques were simply too similar.
Jun’s techniques were mysterious and difficult to predict, always appearing in places where others didn’t expect him to be. Chen’s techniques were also strange and extremely similar to a dance that combined various skills. His body also oscillated in and out of existence, seemingly disappearing when he willed it and reappearing suddenly. He left behind several afterimages as he moved, confusing others as to where his real body was.
The only difference was that Jun’s movement technique had a faint, imperceptible feeling, along with a weak yet dignified aura—something that shouldn’t have appeared in an assassin’s movement technique. In contrast, Chen’s movement technique was more suited to the principles of an assassin. It was strange and elusive, leaving no traces as the user moved unseen like a ghost, no matter the time of day.
There was another great similarity between them: regardless of whether they soared through the air or jumped over obstacles, their stances always instinctively adjusted to the most optimal position for attack and defense!
Their hands were placed in the position where they could draw their swords in the quickest time. Their arms and legs could instantly burst out with multiple fatal attacks without losing any momentum!
Although they were running at full speed the entire time, the two assassins had been closely monitoring each other’s movements. From the start, both had developed a deep admiration for the other’s skill!
It was like when one makes a great effort to reach the top of a mountain after passing countless people and feels proud of themselves, only to suddenly see another proud figure standing on a mountain in front of them. While there would be a sense of hostility and competition, the two who had reached the peak would also feel a type of happiness, knowing there were others as strong as themselves.
This was a very strange mindset.
Truth be told, whether it was Jun or Chen, the strength they held definitely wasn’t the highest in this world. Compared to experts like the elders of ancient assassin clans, they were definitely inferior by more than one level. However, the vigilance, judgment, calculation, and intuition of these two had been honed to an unquestionably refined level!
At that moment, a single thought simultaneously arose in both their hearts: If I win, I must win magnificently! If I lose, I must be completely convinced of the loss so that I have no regrets!
Being aware of one’s defeat is the purest way to know that someone else is stronger, no matter how many times they face each other.

TFTC, it might be interesting to know if Jun's presence in this timeline and the creation of his army and his actions against the bandits led Kanki to become not a general of Qin but rather of Zhao or Wei
