Chapter 102: Finding the Way
Jun and the twins slowly stepped on the snow-covered ground, effortlessly gliding through the thick white path.
Trevor carried Shen on his back because he might slow them down if something unexpected happened; after all, he wasn’t as fast as they were.
Jun seemed serious at the moment, but in reality, he was thinking about the time he had carried Kyou Kai on his back. However, he had made the poor decision to push her away now so that she could experience life more fully.
Was it a good decision? Thinking about it rationally, it was a good thing. After all, she needed to truly know what she wanted so that her life wouldn’t be tied to decisions she might not want.
For Jun, it would be terrible to tie Kyou Kai to his side without her genuinely enjoying it, so this journey would be for her to discover if she depended on someone else or if she was there because she liked what surrounded her.
Shen, on the other hand, was very embarrassed by the suggestion of being carried on one of the twins' backs. It was humiliating for someone to carry him; he wasn’t injured, but they had called him a sack of potatoes.
Along the way, Jun curiously asked, "What do you know about the assembly of assassins? How is it that I’ve never heard of this before? Twins, has this ever happened with our clan?"
Trevor remained silent for a long time. He lowered his head while running through the snowy land. After a while, he spoke: "There’s no reason why you wouldn’t know about these things. We’ve spent more time in the Asura village than you, which is why our knowledge is completely different."
"That’s right, you were still a child when you left Asura village." Vera acknowledged Jun’s skill for having left the village at such a young age, being a Black Moon despite all the rules.
Jun made a sound of acknowledgment and didn’t ask further questions. However, his heart was filled with countless thoughts.
Should he get involved in the assembly of assassins and take advantage of the power of all the assassin clans?
Now, with the rumors of meetings between all the assassin clans in Zhao, it was known that this kingdom where they were staying was considering sending its army to kill all the clans one by one.
According to more reliable sources, this was because Yuu Ren had been killed by Kyou Kai. She had supposedly worked for the King of Zhao, and for some reason, they ended up on bad terms.
As for the reasons for those terms... Could it probably be due to a failed assassination attempt?
Assassins were uncontrollable, and Jun wasn’t one to be manipulated by the King of Qin, even if his tribe was in that territory. In less than five years, he had created a private army to protect his interests.
That sense of power that the King of Zhao enjoyed was affected; he became scared when Yuu Ren left without saying anything, which is why he was seriously thinking about ending those problems before sending everyone to invade Qin.
To be honest, Jun was a little surprised by this revelation!
In this world, there were truly so many things he didn’t know, and only now was he starting to understand.
As the small group of four advanced, Jun suddenly made a sound of "Hoo..."
At that moment, he stopped. In front of them, atop a tree, the entire tree was as white as snow, and the sky swirled with a white sheet. A man dressed in robes the same color as the snow was standing on the tree, looking at the three of them coldly. His whole body seemed to have fused with the white background, and even if someone strained their eyes to look, they would find it difficult to distinguish his figure.
The king of assassins, Chen.
He was actually waiting there for them!
"Hey bastard, as expected, you helped me on purpose a moment ago." Chen wore robes similar to Kyou Kai’s, as if he were a variant of her clan, but with men among them.
Chen jumped down from the tree and stood firmly without any trouble. The abundant white snow on the ground didn’t leave a single trace of his footsteps.
It was as if Chen’s body were completely weightless. His eyes were colder than an icy wall; a slight chill emerged from his body as he looked at Jun.
The phrase he uttered seemed as though he had come to offer his gratitude, but his expression said something entirely different.
It was more as if he had come looking for trouble.
"It doesn’t count as helping on purpose; I just don’t want you to die so soon." Jun responded calmly as he exerted some force into his legs, and the solid ice beneath his feet began to make a cracking sound.
Against Chen, it was nothing short of seeking death if his legs were limited in power!
"The reason?" Chen stood in the snow, but he gave one a feeling of intangibility. It was as if his body had disappeared. But upon a closer look, he materialized again. He wasn’t wearing any disguise, but to the eyes of those who had trained for most of their lives with an inner aura, it was as if that man had no face.
"Reason? Maybe it’s because, in this world, the number of assassins that can catch my attention is very small. If the so-called king of assassins were to fall from the sky someday, then there would be far fewer things to interest me in this world."
Jun was also speaking in an extremely calm and ordinary tone, but when he mentioned the words "the so-called king of assassins," he put special emphasis on the words, clearly articulating each one.
An extremely heavy atmosphere instantly surrounded him as the words were formed!
It was as if a bright and sunny day were suddenly covered by dark clouds!
At that moment, he had completely discarded his carefree attitude. Although his face was calm, his words were extremely serious. For the Black Moon Jun, this kind of serious attitude was an incredibly rare sight!
This rarely seen seriousness actually seemed somewhat soft on his face!
The twins suddenly felt as if Jun had changed. In that moment, he seemed to be someone much more ruthless than the King of Assassins standing before him.
The two stood facing each other, neither making the first move.
It was like two hungry wolves staring at each other in the plains! Each of them wanted to devour the other!
They were like a pair of incredibly sharp swords, both hanging in the same room; when they were drawn at midnight, they would shake and vibrate, roaring at each other like beasts.
All of this was just to fight over which of them was the sharpest sword!
One was an unmatched weapon, its gleaming edge incredibly glorious; one of them was a mystical type of weapon, proudly displaying its sharpness!
Both individuals had extreme confidence in themselves. It was the intense belief that they could kill whoever they wanted under the heavens!
"That's a good reason..." Chen, whose figure was shrouded by the snowstorm, lowered his head and smiled. After that, he lifted his head fiercely, and his pair of sword-sharp eyes landed on Jun's face as he muttered, "The one who caused all this commotion and dragged me directly into it, it's you, isn't it?"
"That's not entirely true; it is true that I was directly involved in this, but this can't be seen as something bad. Maybe for the assassin clans, I'm like their savior." Jun smiled slightly and continued, "I think you should be thanking me for granting your wish to be famous once again! An eternal legend!"
As Jun said this, he arrogantly raised his head, and his eyes also pierced through the snowy winds, staring directly at Chen with a look he hadn't shown anyone in a long time.
Two pairs of eyes locked onto each other. Both felt their eyes aching at the same time, but neither was willing to yield, holding their gaze resolutely!
The air grew even colder, and everyone around immediately began to hold their breath.
"It's a shame that the fame you gave me isn't something I wanted back!" Chen coldly looked at Jun. "Besides, this path of glory is nothing but a road to death, and a path with no return! If it were you, would you feel grateful?"
"If it were up to me to choose, of course, I’d want to come back to life after being dead for a long time. Unlike you, I'm much better." Jun looked at him coldly, implying that if fame bothered him that much, he shouldn't have stepped out of the shadows to claim it.
"I change the fate of the dead; I maintain a balance between the good and bad that happens around me; that's the difference between you and me."
"Then we're in the same profession. However, to say you're better than me, stronger than me, you still don’t have the qualifications to back that up!" Chen stared unblinkingly into Jun's eyes and said, "Your killing intent may be sharp, but I am the true King of the Assassin world!"
Chen was a powerful assassin, and naturally, he was extremely sensitive to Jun's killing intent! The moment Jun's original personality was unleashed, the first thing he immediately sensed was that this person was a legendary man, a king-level assassin in this world!
Unfortunately, two kings cannot exist in the same world, and that's what the five hundred years of war have proven to the entire world.
For this reason, Jun used the words "proclaimed King of the Assassins" and unleashed his murderous aura.
"Is that so? But don’t you think your so-called killing intent reeks of too much regretful blood?!" Jun slowly took a step forward. In an instant, his body advanced several meters.
When his right foot landed, Chen, who was dozens of meters away, reacted accordingly as his left foot stepped back half a step, then returned again as if he regretted the action.
However, the foot had shifted from its original point. His body turned slightly, revealing part of his side to Jun, who was watching him.
"Afraid to fight?" Jun's lips curved slightly. "Why are you hiding? Since you said that because of me you're back in this world of killing, don't you want to take revenge?"
"When I kill, it’s always only after receiving payment! Even if it's an enemy, they're still a worthless target!" Chen narrowed his eyes and said. "That’s my principle as an assassin! If there’s no compensation, I won’t act! Although I can see you're eager to fight powerful figures, I received your help once. Besides, today isn’t a good time for me to exchange blows with you." Chen's eyes shifted toward the twins.
"Regardless of the reason, at the end of the day, it’s a fact that you don’t dare to fight!" Jun snorted coldly. "So, the title of King of the Assassins should be mine! Don’t you think?"
This sentence was like a sharp needle piercing deep into Chen's heart!
Chen gritted his teeth and spat, "That so-called nickname in the world is nothing but a useless title! But a king among assassins, that throne does exist! It’s something no one can rise above! The position of the king isn't something earned with words, but with a sword and with blood."
Jun's words had directly triggered Chen's killing intent, who had already been on the verge of retreating. At that moment, as his internal aura erupted, he took a step forward.
He didn’t even stop to consider that his actions were drawing his enemies toward him.
Yes, the King of Assassins!
Everything was for the sake of that title!
Although this wasn’t a glamorous profession, both of them desired to claim that title!
With two such characters meeting on a narrow path, who would claim the title of King of the Assassins?
