Chapter 119: The Message
Jericho, Vermont, United States of America
In an office, a woman with short blonde hair was engaged in a distressing conversation that had been troubling her for a long time since she received the notice.
"They are not my students. You can send whoever you want to investigate, but you won't find anything."
"Mrs. Weems, you must understand that this situation cannot happen with a Regent on the way for an inspection of your students."
"Nevermore is a safe haven for our students to learn and grow, no matter who or what they are. For over 200 years, we have welcomed outcasts of all kinds: werewolves, vampires, sirens, and gorgons. We have respected the old rules, and all the students come from families that have sworn loyalty to the association," said Larissa Weems in a shaken voice.
"The Regent is on his way for the investigation. I wish you luck."
Larissa Weems sighed and asked, "Who will they send?"
"Regent Guardian Ethan Winchester."
When the call ended, Larissa Weems' hands trembled. How could she not be afraid? They were sending the demon of hunters who slaughtered dark entities left and right.
Everyone had heard of him, and in fact, they feared him.
"I need to prove to him that this place is safe."
Nevermore Academy, often shortened to Nevermore, is an American academy for outcasts located in the state of Vermont, not far from the city of Jericho.
Founded in 1791 on the lands of Joseph Crackstone after he was killed by Goody Addams, Nevermore Academy is an academic institution that nurtures outcasts, monsters, and humanoid creatures born with superhuman abilities. Its goal is to unlock the full potential of its students' extraordinary abilities through world-class teaching and unique extracurricular activities.
A unique place that the Light Association used to create soldiers that would be deployed at the last moment should humanity ever need them.
Ethan hated this place. Once, he was so obsessed with killing dark entities that he wanted to exterminate all the vampires from here.
Many knew of this place, but the townsfolk typically never spoke of it.
But now, with the recent wave of deaths, everyone blamed the academy for it.
Without a doubt the whole world hoped they weren’t involved.
...
"Do we have any important leads?" Ethan asked from the back of a truck while eating ice cream.
"In 1990, Garrett Gates entered Nevermore Academy during the Rave'N and attacked Gomez Addams before being stabbed by Morticia Frump. Garrett's body fell into the courtyard in front of Larissa Weems, Morticia’s roommate and now the current principal of Nevermore."
"Were there no arrests?"
"It was irrelevant to us. As long as dark entities kill each other, we never intervene. You know that well," Liam said, looking at Ethan, subtly referencing the Hale family situation.
"ETA?"
"We'll arrive in Jericho in a few more hours, sir. As you ordered, we’ve brought your special team."
Ethan regretted not bringing Stiles. He wanted to train him to be useful in the future, but unfortunately, Stiles was still studying and maintaining his job at the school as an observation agent.
"Has the principal received the message?" Ethan was very interested in making sure everyone knew he was on his way.
"They’ve been informed."
"Good, then let's see how big this academy really is and how well they do their job."
