Chapter 99: An Attempt
Although the three men in purple also sensed something unusual about the lame man with their expert intuition, they couldn’t precisely identify who he was, as they hadn’t yet reached the level of deep connection with their inner energy that Jun had.
That’s why, after a few minutes, they began to lower their guard when they hadn’t gathered much information from their conversation with the lame man.
“Well then, what do you say about the owners of this hotel? Can you tell if they’re stronger than us?” The twins looked at Jun after hearing from Shen that the owners were assassins.
Jun scratched his head and replied, “They are really strong, but I think they’re slightly stronger than you but weaker than me. They must be using some special technique that perfectly hides their breathing, so you can’t detect their true inner aura power. But they’re obviously not ordinary old men; I even think they’re not really old.”
Jun didn’t know that while they were discussing, the two owners were also talking to each other.
One of them said, “Who are these two, the boy and the twins? Any one of them is very dangerous.”
The other replied, “Indeed. If something unexpected is going to happen, it will definitely be because of those three. But... where are they from? I think I recognize those black robes with red symbols!”
“Those men in purple from that assassin clan haven’t realized the true strength of that old one-legged man, much less discovered the men in black.”
“Should we kill them?”
“Forget it. As long as they don’t provoke us, let them deal with their own problems. It’s not our business.”
The two owners continued lying on the counter, pretending to sleep.
“If the lame man really is the King of Assassins, then why did he come here when three equally dangerous men are present? Isn’t he putting himself in a dangerous position? He might face three great assassins and even more mysterious ones.” Shen whispered these words with curiosity.
“There’s no need to guess; that one-legged old dog is indeed the King of Assassins from the Zhao villages.”
Jun smiled coldly and continued slowly, “I’m not at all surprised to see him here. In fact, I think he came here because of those three flashy and idiotic men in purple. Maybe the supreme assassin is now truly enraged and wants revenge!”
“That could be the reason,” the twins agreed with that idea.
“But how is he going to deal with the three? With that old man’s skills in his weakened state, he’d be lucky if he managed to kill even one of them.
“Well, there are things you can’t imagine assassin clans doing, but nothing is impossible! Fighters like you don’t understand the true assassination techniques.”
Jun smiled confidently. “Since that old dog dared to come, then the fate of the three is already sealed by the freedom of death. I just want to see how those people will escape once they realize who their targets are.”
“Even if that happens, that old man is very arrogant. I can’t believe he actually showed up here.” The twins together could kill that old man, but if they were alone, they’d be defeated—not easily, but they would lose.
“Even an old lion would fight to the death when its territory is about to be claimed by someone else... How could the King of Assassins not be angry knowing that someone else wants to claim his title?” Jun sympathized with that old man, who must have been very bored in these last few years of peace.
“We are to blame for all this! If that old man has the strength to kill those men, he’ll try to kill us too. Do we need to make preparations for that?”
“Only common assassin clans would be scared of an Assassin King; a black moon like me can end his ancient fantasy... Why are you looking at me like that? I never said I’d get involved. If I kill him, it would be a huge loss.” Jun smiled and suddenly stood up, pretending to be a thug: “Get lost, stupid old man!”
“Didn’t your mother teach you how to eat? Just hearing you makes me want to vomit.”
Everyone in the place immediately threw some judgmental looks at Jun.
‘Is this young man trying to bully an old man in such a miserable state?’
The lame man was surprised for the first time in his life. Then he lifted his head and shouted, as if he were about to cry, “I’ve lost everything... I’m already half dead! Can’t I even eat as I want? What kind of world is this? Is there still justice in this place?”
You could say that the old man was a good actor, saying these words through tears. Along with his extremely gloomy image, it was enough to make even the coldest people in the world feel a bit sympathy with a sigh.
The twins who were eating almost choked when they heard Jun’s outburst, at first thinking those complaints were directed at them.
Trevor, especially, gave a silent compliment. Although he was unaware of Jun’s current skills, he was as strong as an elder of the Asura clan.
“Shit! It's your problem for being unlucky. Are your injuries an excuse to disgust me while I'm enjoying my meal? What an absurd joke!” Jun's attitude had only worsened. His ink-stained face was full of cruelty. He looked like a spoiled rich man listening to the complaints of his subjects.
He walked forward and kicked the soup bowl into the fire. A few burning embers scattered with sparks.
Crack!
“Get out of my sight! You're such an annoying and stupid old man! Damn it, since you came in, this place has turned into a dump. Tell me, how can I eat like this? How?”
Jun twisted his neck and looked at the man sideways. With one hand on his hip, he truly looked like a thug in the eyes of others. He spat and continued, “Get lost, get lost! If not, I'll rip off your other leg like they did with your third leg! Shit. You're like a cockroach that only knows how to disgust people!”
When would this old man make a move? Jun was excited to find out if he would attack.
But as he kept talking to provoke this old monster, his doubts were cleared. With that aura that had never appeared in anyone outside his village, Jun was sure that this was the infamous King of Assassins.
Recently, Chen's name as King of Assassins was about to be erased. He, who had worked hard for so long, was furious and thought, Damn it. If the tiger doesn't show its might to these foolish brats today, won't they just think I'm a sick old man? Even the assassins I trained in my youth don't listen to me anymore. Damn it, is my title a lie?
Chen couldn't bear it any longer...
He knew that if he revealed his identity, everyone would try to kill him to claim the title of King of Assassins!
But as Jun's spit hit his face, old Chen thought, Even if I'm going to die, I'll take some of these guys with me! Killing a few counts as a victory; only then will I rest in peace.
And so Chen finally decided to retaliate!
A fierce retaliation from a cold-blooded assassin!
He had entered this place to kill the purple-clad assassins who had massacred a village near Zhao's largest city. Chen wanted to kill them for abusing their strength.
Having finally entered and evaded interrogation by the three men, he was preparing to strike when they finished eating and were least vigilant. But now, a little mad brat was insulting him.
Damn it!
Chen glanced at the young man, but there was nothing he could do. I could kill this young bastard with a single finger... But now there are three strong assassins behind me! It would be easy to kill him, but if I'm exposed... wouldn't it be just as easy for them to kill me too?
The supreme assassin, Chen, usually very clever, now groaned in his mind. Is this really fate? At such a crucial moment, this brat came out of nowhere! Do I really have to give up this opportunity?
“Stop looking at me, you old pervert! Am I too handsome? Even if I am, are you worthy of staring? Still looking?” Jun shouted like an evil thug. He reached out and pushed Chen's shoulder hard.
Chen staggered backward and nearly fell to the ground.
But at that moment, Chen was shocked to realize something: That push placed me in the best spot to attack the purple-clad men, and the force of the push twisted my body into the perfect angle to draw my sword...
Don't tell me...
“Shit! Looks like you're a stubborn idiot who doesn’t get hints, huh?” Seeing that the old man wasn’t making a move, Jun thought that maybe if he pushed him toward his targets, there would be some action.
“Didn't you hear me?” Jun cried out like a madman and slapped the limping man. Chen let out a surprised yelp and stumbled backward again. Now he was just three steps from the table where the three purple-clad men sat.
One of the men frowned and shouted coldly, “Enough!”
And at this precise, interesting moment, Jun kicked Chen in the abdomen, sending him rolling, landing right under the purple-clad men's table.
This position was much better than what he had initially planned! To a common man nearby, this event seemed like pure coincidence.
But the clever cooperation between the two strongest assassins in the place had been perfectly achieved with great unspoken understanding!
“What the hell!” The two shop owners behind the counter raised their heads in unison and shouted, their expressions changing.
One of the purple-clad men smashed the table and stood up. He was furious. “You little shit, are you looking for trouble?” He was clearly addressing Jun, who boldly held the hilt of his sword.
But he couldn't finish his sentence. Suddenly, from beneath the table, a brilliant, sharp flash glimmered. With a scream, there was only the sound of blood spilling.
A shadowy figure broke through the table and leaped into the air. Countless flashes of shadowy blades like flickering cloaks of darkness aimed for the vital points of the three men.
Jun's kick had caused a sense of dread, making them unaware of the greater threat lurking beneath them!
Although Jun didn't know why this attack happened at that moment, he was eager to witness the skills of the assassin villages he hadn't been able to visit before.
