Chapter 114: Assembly of Assassins [2]
Regarding Chen's intentions, all the elders of the assassin clans naturally understood. Therefore, knowing that Chen had returned, there was no way they would disrespect his vow.
A strange look passed through Da Jue's eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
"Since you're here, do you support the move we're making?"
"I support killing the king, but I will condemn anyone who attacks the defenseless villages near the border."
Lauden nodded. Although he had been testing the other party, their words were not wrong. This matter truly needed to have a single, clear culprit.
Moreover, they had to act with honor and not attack the defenseless or their rivals on the path to their mission.
But with the enemy army nearby, their first priority should be to find a way to resolve that issue.
Lauden was more concerned than anyone about this matter.
"We must send experts to intercept the enemies as quickly as possible. Right now, our greatest advantage is that the enemy doesn’t yet know we’ve uncovered their secret. If we move swiftly, we can arrive in time and kill the culprits."
"However, the enemy army also has many experts, all of them formidable warriors who can match us in armor and skill. It won’t be easy to go for the king’s head at this time." As Lauden spoke, he turned to the elder Du Jue, his intentions clearly directed.
All the assassins, countless of them gathered in the assembly, agreed. A large-scale war wasn’t their style of fighting, so if they were to face such a conflict, it had to be on favorable ground.
Going to war with Zhao wasn’t a small matter, and Jun clearly took it with great importance.
According to the information, there were at least twenty powerful martial artists guarding the army surrounding these mountains, and quite a few experts among them.
Snatching food from the jaws of tigers wouldn’t be easy. Without a plan and an assassin king to unite all the clans and tribes, it would be impossible.
The assembly had no issue, but in terms of armor, the assassins weren’t prepared for a large-scale fight, especially since there wasn’t a leader.
The King of Assassins would be responsible for uniting all the tribes, commanding the maximum power in the world of experienced warriors, and leading them against their enemies.
The assassins' ego wouldn’t be settled until at least one assassin king stepped up to lead the attack, and this was evident when Chen made his presence known.
Compared to Chen, the experts at the assembly were like a drop in the ocean, not even worth mentioning.
"Haha, if the king of assassins wants to name someone to succeed him, as great assassins, they must fulfill a very important mission, one that many would find impossible to complete."
Chen didn’t need to say anything. Jun, standing to the side, laughed heartily, caressing the hilt of his sword as everyone focused their attention on him.
"I will kill Hou Ken in a one-on-one battle," Jun announced, revealing the rival he had chosen to prove that no one else could face him.
Hou Ken was a martial artist known as the Bushin, a seeker of the martial path from a mysterious tribe of path seekers who sought to end all wars and was a member of the State of Zhao’s Three Great Heavens, ranked as the number one on their list.
"The most reckless Bushin?"
"However, Black Moon, the strength of that monster is something out of this world and should not be underestimated," Shen kindly reminded him. Although he was pleased that everything was going well so far, as Jun’s left-hand man, he couldn’t remain silent.
"That’s a worthy target." Chen had no choice but to remind him of a few things.
"Haha, don’t worry; I think everyone here would agree. He’s just an old man who has lost his old ways, knowing that the only way for the war to end is for a single emperor to rule China."
"I believe that if you can kill him, then we’ll follow wherever your sword points," Da Jue stroked his beard with a rather smug expression.
Lauden nodded slightly, not daring to underestimate this young Black Moon. To earn Chen’s trust, these people who accompanied him naturally had their own outstanding qualities.
"Since everyone is in agreement, let's prepare for the worst. We will attack when the time is right, and after our victory, we will head to a city under our control." Jun planned to take all these assassins to Wei, the closest city under his command.
"So, will you lead?"
"Not until I kill my target. For now, Chen is and will remain the King of Assassins." Jun silently warned that if this agreement wasn’t respected, all dissenters would face judgment.
Everyone who wanted to speak remained silent, as the trap Jun had set for them was so cunning that anyone complaining now would face the doubt of hundreds of eyes.
Having served the orders of assassins for so many years, Jun was very aware that assassins cared deeply about honor, so if someone now tried to replace Chen, it would stir much controversy.
"My name is Chen, recognized sixty years ago as the King of Assassins." Chen looked at everyone who had risen, showing their swords.
"Our story is written in the whispers of the wind, and now the King of Zhao wants to erase us from the world. Never has there been such a foolish king, but we will show him that we are not easy to deal with."
"We will kill the King of Zhao!"
"Ahhhh!"
