Chapter 111: The Important Changes in the Assassins' Villages
"What are we waiting for?"
"We need a strong leader to guide us in taking the head of that stupid king who wants to see us dead. For that, we won’t need any leader; even I can lead a great army."
"That's common. The strategists are the ones who do all the work."
"Are you underestimating me? They call me Lauden, the demon slayer."
The assembly of assassins was a place where the most ruthless leaders gathered. Anyone who led a village or an ancient assassin clan had a voice and vote in this meeting, which would decide who the next king of assassins would be.
All the most infamous assassins Zhao had in its history, and who were still alive, were here, discussing their survival or how they would die.
The most daring one was Lauden, who had the best chances of becoming the new King of Assassins.
But anyone who knew him knew he was as venomous as a rattlesnake!
He might have had the face of a kangaroo, but he wasn’t one!
He knew how to kiss boots when needed and was more ruthless than wolves!
His name not only sounded similar to kangaroos but was also funny, yet no one dared to laugh at him!
Not even in casual conversations!
Because Lauden wasn't even a bit merciful. A Lord of a city in Wei offended him twenty years ago. He was surrounded by an army when he approached that old man for talks. Then, Lauden became enraged, and the city witnessed a bloodbath for three days and nights!
He killed the entire city without reinforcements!
The city was small, but it still had a population of hundreds of thousands! There were soldiers and martial artists, but Lauden slaughtered them all.
The most extraordinary thing was that after the mass killing, he didn’t hesitate to carry a large tub full of human blood and wrote some big words on the wall with the blood:
The heavens are merciful, so am I; I kill in the name of the heavens to show their mercy towards us mortals!
He even called himself merciful right after killing hundreds of thousands of people, including the dogs!
How ridiculous!
A normal expert would be affected when they killed dozens of enemies. But Lauden didn’t even flinch when he killed so many! And he still thought he did the right thing!
What a merciful man with a kangaroo face!
All of China was shaken in its place.
There was even a bloody war after that, where Wei retaliated by burning two cities.
Lauden stroked his beard and sighed in dismay. "We know that Chen is a monstrous figure. We kill by the will of the heavens; we don’t need another King of Assassins to accomplish that."
Another middle-aged man with a tall hat and hemp robes stepped forward. He had a long face resembling a horse. But he actually looked more like a donkey. He also had small, long eyes that looked like two bloodthirsty slits. Through those slits, he coldly gazed at Lauden and said, "Lauden, are you trying to fake our conflict to once again spread your senseless mass killings?"
"What did you say?"
"We shouldn't argue; we are here to reach a strategic agreement." This man, who spoke, wasn’t even slightly scared of such a murderous figure as Lauden.
Instead, he seemed even to be on par with Lauden.
Lauden wasn’t angry either.
Nobody here was talking to people of low status. They were all famous throughout Zhao and had accomplished feats the others could deem impossible.
Due to Jue, he was famous for having ice-cold blood.
Someone as cold as him, of course, his way of dealing with others was evident!
Due Jue and Lauden were true monsters with the chance to claim the title of King of Assassins!
They were the venerable ones!
"We all know our young ones need a symbol if we want them to kill and die without any kind of fear. Only then will we be useful until our deaths."
Lauden frowned with some disgust and said, "You’re quite the spiritualist; you're getting old."
"Well, you're not as young as you think you are," said Due Jue with a calm look, his words heavy enough to cause discomfort to anyone.
But Lauden said nothing. He kept his look of disgust and said, "We can't weaken our forces in a tournament like the great assassin clans used to do."
All these were clans created for a specific benefit. Like how Jun created his strength, the other black moons have opted to create their own assassin clans.
It has been like this for a thousand years, which led to the existence of numerous assassin clans or tribes.
"We must remain honorable. My guys have detected that some assassins have attacked nearby villages where the military guarded their resources. We cannot tolerate this kind of behavior under any circumstances."
"What do you expect us to do when the same King, whom we have never bothered, says he will kill us?"
Due Jue shook his head and said, "It could be a plot."
"A trap? The ones we took the information from were having a fight with Zhao soldiers. They were following them for the valuable information they carried."
The way Jun's soldiers were intercepted was quite strange, but it's true that the source of information that inspired all the assassin clans came from him.
"That’s a lie. We know that the hunters from my clan found that information. They killed a raven, and it turned out to be transporting that information."
Lauden got really angry and shouted, "Those purple bastards, I’ll split their big heads in two for lying to me!"
