Chapter 109: Making a Rash Decision
Seeing that Ba Tie had fallen into a dangerous disadvantage, the two martial artists were about to draw their swords when suddenly, something flashed before their eyes from the direction of the attack. Before they could raise their guards, one of them felt a sense of weakness as his body gently collapsed, a bloody hole appearing in his neck.
The other expert was immediately struck by terror, screaming as he tried to hide. However, it was already too late. With the sound of wind being sliced, a sword slashed from his shoulder down to his abdomen!
His organs and intestines spilled out immediately onto the icy snow, steaming with heat!
Ba Tie roared in fury—a violent and raging anger! The soldiers behind him, who had already suffered mortal wounds, had not reacted in time.
Nearby soldiers, captains, and high-ranking members watching the entire battle collapsed to the ground, while the other screamed in an inhuman tone, staring in horror as his organs poured out onto the ground. His terror had reached an extreme level, and his mind was completely in shock!
At that moment, he was still alive, with a sliver of consciousness, filled with a bitter feeling throughout his body.
He could even feel the piercing cold of the snow beneath his organs!
This was a kind of horror one would only see in nightmares!
But now, it was happening in real life—assassins were attacking them...
Given their age and experience, these experts would normally not have been so easily susceptible to sneak attacks, not to mention they could retaliate in seconds!
But Ba Tie's fight with the Ruan brothers had been too intense, escalating so quickly that they suddenly found themselves in a life-or-death battle without realizing what was happening around them.
This situation had captured everyone’s full attention! Many of Zhao’s soldiers were still busy trying to figure out what exactly had happened to cause such a great grudge between their leaders all of a sudden.
It was at that precise moment that the two assassin kings appeared out of nowhere, catching them completely off guard!
Forget about retaliation—two of the unluckiest ones didn’t even know they were already dead by the time they realized they were being attacked from an external source.
The three people in the air who were unleashing fierce attacks also realized the tragedy unfolding below. Their hearts, too, were torn by shock and anxiety at that point! However, they couldn’t stop now.
This was the most critical point of their clash, and even if they wanted to stop, the point of no return had already passed.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
With three powerful metallic sounds, the three figures facing off could no longer hold back their attacks. In a matter of moments, their bodies fell one after another, coughing up blood.
The three couldn’t avoid suffering severe injuries. Especially Ba Tie, whose wounds were the worst! After all, he was fighting one against two, and the gap in strength was too large!
At this moment, on the battlefield, the feelings of Ba Tie, Ruan Yin, and Ruan Yang had reached an indescribably complicated level.
Confusion, rage, sorrow, pain, disbelief...
All kinds of emotions passed through the faces of the three!
For experts of their level, who could traverse the land, almost unrivaled wherever they chose to go, and after enduring the long period of cultivation to reach their strength, they had long become impassive to most things.
As for expressions, regardless of the type of expression, it was rare to find any trace of it on their battle-hardened faces. But at that moment, their faces were lit up with so many vivid and complicated expressions. It was easy to imagine how rich their emotions were in just a few moments.
However, even those intense expressions couldn’t illustrate the current state of their complex feelings.
In fact, at that moment, they had completely forgotten how to roar or cry out. Their brains couldn’t recall the type of sound their throats should produce to clarify the pain in their hearts!
They allowed their blood to flow freely, turning the snowflakes into scarlet streaks. But to everyone’s eyes, the scene remained the same, as if the world had frozen in time at that instant!
How could things have come to this?
The pitiful cries of their teammates, the screams of their battle brothers, the sight of that twisted, half-dead body on the ground, the snow soaked in blood, and the pile of organs and intestines still emitting warmth.
Blood flowed freely from the wound on Ba Tie’s head, but he didn’t fall...
In reality, of the eight great experts who had arrived in such high spirits, only the injured Ba Tie could still be considered to have any fighting ability! Although his injuries weren’t light, they weren’t fatal either.
“They’re assassins…”
They were all attacked in an instant—death descended upon them all.
But the sharp pain he was enduring was something even someone like him found hard to handle!
The pain in his neck and scalp was secondary; the most critical point was that his skull had been cracked. That kind of pain was already deep in the bone, and he could feel death approaching!
Ba Tie roared in pain, using all his strength to shout as loud as he could to release the anguish in his mind. At the same time, he was issuing a warning!
He didn’t even turn around to see who had wounded him so severely. Because he knew very clearly that the moment he turned around, he would forever lose the chance to escape death!
“Don’t underestimate me.” With a loud cry, Ba Tie instantly became one with his spear, turning into a long rainbow streak that shot across the snowy ground, carrying a touch of bloody light as he fled with all his strength.
At that moment, Chen's speed had practically reached the maximum level of this world! In an instant, his figure had already disappeared from everyone's sight!
This immense speed, which pushed the full potential of the human body to its absolute limit, was something the others could only watch in awe!
The technique "one with the spear" was immensely powerful in its own right, but from ancient times until now, Ba Tie was probably the first and only person to use it to escape.
Although Chen's shadow had completely disappeared, Jun had still not shown himself.
In the air, a long, sharp cry still echoed loudly. In fact, it seemed to grow even stronger, likely fueled by adrenaline.
"The commander is in danger; protect him!"
Outside the mountain, more whistling sounds responded! The soldiers who were waiting in the rear sprang into action.
The Ruan brothers finally landed on the ground. Their fight had been entirely real, with not even a hint of feigned blows; their bodies were soaked in blood, and their muscles trembled in shock. However, the moment they realized they were in mortal danger, the three quickly got up as soon as they landed.
Blood trickled from the corners of their mouths, but their bodies stood completely upright.
Chen's body flashed, and the moment the three landed and stood up, several illusion-like sword rays flashed out. Ruan Yin's eyes widened as he watched the sword light pierce through his chest!
Chen's full-force deathblow!
Chen's strike was perfectly placed and executed with expertise. Ruan Yin was neither the weakest nor the most severely injured, and he wasn’t the easiest to attack. Yet Chen chose him as the target out of the three because he was the most complicated to kill! Of the three, Ruan Yin was the only one with any remaining combat power! He was the most injured, and although his wounds were not considered light, he was still a powerful martial artist!
Ruan Yin had just landed again and stood up; he hadn’t even had the chance to regulate his breathing! This precise moment was the best opportunity to take his life! As for the other two, they had only half of their lives left. Once Ruan Yin was dealt with, the other two were as good as dead...
So, Chen didn’t even take half a breath to recover. After killing two people in quick succession, he once again merged with his sword and rushed in for a swift stab. If Chen had allowed Ruan Yin to catch his breath, it wouldn’t have been so easy to kill him afterward.
This was the experience and intuition of a Supreme Assassin!
This strike of the sword showed no mercy!
As Chen had calculated, after that intense battle and the unexpected changes on the ground, Ruan Yin couldn’t avoid this fatal blow!
He could barely steady himself and hadn’t even breathed before the flash of the snow-like sword pierced his chest!
As soon as the sword penetrated his body, it traveled through his insides. The immense force even sent his body flying backward.
Ruan Yin did not fall short of his reputation as a powerful martial artist. He knew he was certainly dead and let out a wild roar, his voice echoing in all directions. His two hands exploded with all their might, using every bit of strength to launch four palm strikes at Chen!
Four palm strikes were all he could manage!
In the next instant, his entire body was directly torn apart by Chen’s sword, but receiving all those attacks left Chen with serious injuries as well.
Ruan Yang's eyes widened, and he screamed in a hoarse and desperate voice, "Damn it."
His face twisted with disbelief. "Have I been stabbed? How could that be possible?"
The bright sword blade flickered and vanished without a trace. Ruan Yin roared madly, swinging his fists blindly, hoping to drag his attacker to the grave with him.
However, his fists only struck empty air, taking with them the last of his strength. His body stumbled several steps in his madness, and finally, he collapsed weakly to the ground in resignation.
His legs buckled, and he fell to his knees in defeat. His body swayed and toppled backward. His head finally touched the ground, and as if by coincidence, it touched the back of his own foot, causing his body to resemble a drawn bow. His eyes remained open in fury, his body stiff.
His intense rage had fueled his overwhelming desire to see who had killed him, leading to his death in such a strange and unattainable posture. However, he was doomed to disappointment because, at that moment, Jun was already standing, ready to eliminate his next target—that huge man called Ba Tie.
Of the three, Ruan Yin had been the least injured and was the first to be killed by Chen; Ruan Yang was the second most capable and had been eliminated directly by Jun! As for Ba Tie, he was the most seriously injured! Fighting two opponents of equal strength would make it odd if he wasn’t gravely injured!
There was no surprise in this!
Ba Tie struggled to remain standing. Judging by his condition, he had been reduced to an extremely fragile state. It was as if a slightly stronger gust of wind could knock him down.
"Damn..." Ba Tie coughed lightly, and blood-tinged foam constantly bubbled from his mouth. His body was riddled with dozens of severe muscle tears and lacerations. Even his face was covered in ugly scars. At this point, his old face, which had always worn an expression as if he had seen the hardships of life, seemed to have gained an extra dose of that hardship today...
"Jun of Wei? So, it's you!" Ba Tie laughed bitterly. His body trembled violently, and his eyes grew vacant. "You’ve really surprised this old man! Where is your woman?"
"Don't try to act tough in front of me," Jun said coldly as he swung his sword back and forth.
