Chapter 83: Jun's Trap
Jun maintained soldier camps at numerous points along the border with Zhao and Wei, a secret known only to Kyou Kai and a few logistics personnel.
This strategy was in place in case they were ever pursued by a neighboring kingdom. If they stayed within the forest, they could escape at any moment.
That’s why, when the attack began, Jun was fully prepared to face any number of enemies.
"Attack!"
The ground trembled, and the trees shook. It was impossible to describe the furious power of an entire cavalry battalion, armed with the finest armor Jun could provide. They charged with incredible speed, forming an arrowhead formation as they broke through the enemy lines, creating a massacre.
The neighing of horses mixed with desperate screams, dull thuds of bodies colliding, and the crunch of bones... It was an utterly horrifying scene.
In a short amount of time, over a hundred enemies suffered severe fractures and were thrown into the air by the force of the charge.
At that moment, the disparity between a regular horse and a military warhorse became crystal clear. Whether in terms of strength, endurance, or sheer size, the military warhorses were vastly superior to the domesticated horses of the bandits.
At the same time, Jun’s strategy of luring the assassins and criminals into an open field, forcing them to stretch their formations thin, was paying off.
Usually, cavalry could only unleash their full power in vast plains. However, for a small platoon like Jun’s, a narrow area like this was even more effective.
The main road was only wide enough to allow ten warhorses to pass side by side. No matter how numerous the enemies were, only about twenty of them could confront Jun’s troops at any given time.
This placed Jun's forces at a significant advantage, especially considering the superior strength and coordination of his soldiers.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
With the collapse of the front line, the enemies had already lost momentum against Jun’s rival troops. At this point, they were no different from weeds growing in a straight line, waiting to be crushed.
The lances of Jun's cavalry soldiers pierced through the enemies in their path, withdrawing quickly, and on average, each enemy received six to seven stabs.
Wherever they broke through, they left behind gruesome corpses riddled with holes.
For Jun and his cavalry brigade, this seemed perfectly normal, but many of those fighting had never witnessed anything like it before.
On the other hand, for the bandits, assassins, and Zhao soldiers, Jun’s hundreds of armored horses were nothing short of killing machines. As they watched the cavalry soldiers approach, it felt as if an invisible noose was slowly tightening around their necks.
They were trapped in a nightmare they couldn’t wake up from!
In no time, the four hundred bandits at the front had been reduced to corpses scattered along the road.
Crimson blood and chunks of flesh splattered everywhere.
You should never judge a cavalry force solely by its numbers. On plains with few obstacles, an army of 10,000 riders could subdue an infantry army of 300,000.
Those who didn’t understand this would only find themselves crushed.
"Kill them all!"
Before the sixty Iron-Cape bandits behind them could react, Jun's thirty cavalry soldiers had already merged with the cavalry soldiers previously stationed on the slope.
With the addition of more cavalry soldiers, Jun’s already powerful force became even stronger.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Without hesitation, Jun's thousand cavalry soldiers continued their fierce assault against the group of sixty bandits. From the start of the counterattack until now, only a few seconds had passed.
The warhorses collided, and lances clashed with sabers. The scene repeated itself once again. Mounted warriors faced each other in brutal combat.
Jun, meanwhile, had circled the battlefield to confront his main target: the White Crane assassins, who had done nothing but die on the battlefield.
"What a damn disappointment."
"What did you just say, you son of a bitch?"
"I thought you were much better fighters, but you’re a damn disappointment," Jun said as he slashed the neck of another assassin who had stepped forward to kill him.
The old man Li knew Jun was strong, with more troops, and that there was no need to continue the battle. "We were paid to kill you, but they didn’t tell us you were this strong."
Jun walked toward the remaining assassins, noticing that the battlefield was calming down. "Yeah, that’s the problem when you try to kill someone. You don’t know who they are, how strong they are, or what they can do."
"Spare the people from my village. They’ll serve you. We only attacked because we felt threatened by Zhao, but if you head to Wei, I think they could escape."
"Then die with honor by taking your own life." Jun pulled out a black plaque from his chest and said, "I, Jun Asura, promise to treat those who surrender under my command without discrimination, anger, or resentment."
"Assassin clan Haiyue…"
"You’re a Black Moon."
Jun was surprised; he hadn’t thought these people would recognize him. "So, what’s your decision?"
"I’ll do it, of course." The old man Li knew he couldn’t win a fight against a Black Moon, so he offered his life in exchange for the survival of his subordinates.
